To mark 24 years since India’s triumph over Pakistan in the Kargil War in 1999, the Indian Army organised a Tri-Services ‘Nari Sashaktikaran Women Tri-Service Bike Rally‘ from the National War Memorial in Delhi to the Kargil War Memorial in Dras (Ladakh).
On 23 July, the Chief of the Army Staff, General Manoj Pande, flagged off the all-women Motorcycle Rally from the National War Memorial in New Delhi. Mrs Archana Pande, the Chairperson of the Army Wives Welfare Association, was also present. A number of military and civilian dignitaries, including TVS Motor Company’s Head Business – Premium and other sponsors, were present for the Flag Off at the National War Memorial.
Women Tri-Service Bike Rally
The 25-member Women Tri-Service Bike Rally team includes two Veer Naris, one of whom is a serving officer, ten serving Indian Army Women officers, one woman officer from the Indian Air Force and one from the Indian Navy, three Indian Army women soldiers, and eight Armed Forces spouses. The squad will commemorate the Armed Forces’ decisive victory in the Kargil War and pay tribute to the warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation.
The crew will travel nearly 1000 miles via the plains of Haryana and Punjab, as well as high mountain routes in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, to arrive at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras on July 25. The team will meet with NCC Cadets, kids from various schools/colleges, Veterans, and Veer Naris throughout the Rally. The Indian Army has partnered with TVS Motor Company for this Rally, and competitors will be riding on TVS Ronin motorbikes.
General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff, praised the entire team for embarking on such a difficult journey that exemplifies traits such as dedication, Nari Shakti, and the critical role that women play in nation-building.
