A significant initiative aimed at enhancing medical expertise within the Armed Forces Medical Services was set in motion on 23 February 2026, with the commencement of the 4th Eight-Week Training Course in Sports Medicine at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC). This course is designed specifically for medical officers, focusing on refining their skills in the management of military training injuries and improving overall performance across the military branches.
The curriculum of this specialized course addresses critical areas such as the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of sports and training-related injuries. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of effective rehabilitation protocols and strategies for performance optimization. These capabilities are essential for maintaining operational readiness within the demanding and often strenuous environments that military personnel encounter.
In tandem with the eight-week course, AFMC also initiated a two-week elective program in Sports Medicine for nine undergraduate cadets. This initiative serves to provide these future medical professionals with early exposure to the specialty of sports medicine, reflecting its increasingly important role in military operations and overall soldier health.
These dual programs are indicative of the Armed Forces Medical Services’ commitment to advancing medical capabilities. They aim to promote evidence-based care and cultivate expertise in sports medicine, ultimately supporting the health, performance, and mission effectiveness of military personnel.
