Army Chief Reviews Operational Readiness of Elite Units Amid Focus on Self-Reliance and Innovation

In a significant operational review, Lt Gen Harbinder Singh Vandra, the Chief of Staff of the Sapta Shakti Command, focused on the elite “StrikeHawks” and “ThunderStrikers” units’ operational readiness. The review, conducted on Wednesday, reflects the Indian Army’s strategic emphasis on agility, adaptability, and future preparedness in an evolving security scenario.

During his visit to a key region, Lt Gen Vandra engaged directly with troops, inspecting their training protocols and assessing measures aimed at human resource development. His approach included personal meetings with personnel of all ranks, a move intended to bolster morale and reinforce their commitment to their responsibilities. This comprehensive evaluation also covered advancements in operational tactics and the integration of new technologies, showcasing the Army’s dedication to indigenous innovation through collaborations with over 1,700 industries and 200 academic institutions.

This assessment aligns with the current thrust of the defense establishment towards self-reliance, highlighting a focus on emergency procurements limited to domestically manufactured equipment. The Army Design Bureau has been instrumental in driving these initiatives, actively supporting more than 30 startups that are pioneering solutions in critical areas such as artificial intelligence and robotics.

Officials emphasized that such leadership involvement, coupled with technological advancements, plays a crucial role in bolstering combat readiness in sensitive areas, including the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and the Line of Control (LoC). Lt Gen Vandra’s recognition of the units’ dedication serves as a testament to the Indian Army’s preparedness to tackle future operational challenges head-on.
