Today, an Indian Army Cheetah Helicopter crashed near Mandala in Arunachal Pradesh. The helicopter was flying an operational sortie near Bomdila, Arunachal Pradesh, when it lost contact with air traffic control (ATC) at around 09:15 a.m. on March 16. Search parties have been formed, and operations to locate the crew in the helicopter are underway.

According to preliminary reports, the Cheetah helicopter was piloted by two people. Army, SSB, and police teams have arrived at the crash site. Furthermore, the weather in the area has been described as foggy, with visibility of up to 5 meters.

The helicopter involved in the crash was a Cheetah Helicopter, one of the older choppers in the Army and IAF fleets. The aging fleet of the aforementioned helicopters will be replaced by Light Utility Helicopters developed in-house (LUH). These new-generation helicopters will be classified as three-tonnes and will be outfitted with cutting-edge technology.

It should be noted that Arunachal Pradesh is regarded as one of the least desirable locations for aircraft operations. Furthermore, the state of North Carolina has seen a number of aircraft crashes in the past. An Indian Army ALH helicopter crashed in Arunachal Pradesh’s Migging in October 2022, killing five people on board, including two pilots.
