ARX Robotics to Supply Additional Unmanned Ground Vehicles to Ukraine

In a significant development for military technology and operations, Munich-based ARX Robotics has secured a contract to deliver an additional fleet of Gereon unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) to Ukraine. This initiative is set to establish what could become the world’s largest integrated network of ground military robots.

Currently operational on the front lines in Ukraine, the fleet is expected to expand to hundreds of systems that will be integrated through the company’s Mithra operating system. This setup aims to facilitate coordinated large-scale operations, enhancing the effectiveness and responsiveness of military actions.

To bolster industrial resilience and expedite delivery, production is being diversified across Europe and Ukraine, with local partners stepping up their contributions. This collaborative approach not only supports the rapid scaling of operations but also strengthens regional capabilities in defense manufacturing.

According to ARX Robotics, the expanded fleet will provide significant advantages for soldiers in the field, including increased standoff distances, improved logistics, and a decrease in exposure to high-risk tasks. These enhancements are anticipated to have a direct positive impact on soldiers’ survivability and overall operational tempo.

The Gereon UGV was developed in collaboration with the Ukrainian company Frontline as part of a European-Ukrainian initiative that prioritizes direct feedback from end users. This ensures that the vehicle meets the practical needs of operational personnel.

Based on ARX’s established Gereon RCS platform, the UGV has undergone reengineering to deliver combat-ready capabilities enhanced with integrated artificial intelligence systems. Designed for versatility, the Gereon is adept at tackling obstacle clearance and heavy-load transport, thereby improving efficiency in both military operations and commercial applications while alleviating the pressure on limited manpower.

The UGV’s capacity to carry loads of up to 500 kilograms (1,102 pounds) over distances of 40 kilometers (25 miles) allows it to perform a variety of essential tasks. These include transporting supplies, evacuating casualties, and functioning as a forward-deployed surveillance unit.

Central to the operation of these vehicles is the Mithra operating system, which is tailored to connect entire fleets. Mithra facilitates seamless updates with minimal interruption and allows for mission-specific configuration. By merging sensor data, autonomous capabilities, and networked communications, the system turns the vehicles into intelligent, adaptable assets, enhancing their operational functionality on the battlefield.
