BAE Systems’ Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim) has secured a significant enterprise licensing contract with the Canadian Army to supply its flagship Digital Virtual Trainer (DVT). This cutting-edge wargaming platform is designed to enhance mission preparation, allowing soldiers to strategize, rehearse, execute, and assess operations in immersive, realistic virtual environments.
The DVT suite provides a range of training possibilities, accommodating both individual first-person training scenarios and large-scale collective exercises. This flexibility allows military units to conduct training anywhere in the world, aligning with modern military needs.
One of the standout features of DVT is its utilization of BISim’s well-regarded Virtual Battlespace 4 whole-earth software, complemented by the Blue IG image generator. This combination results in high-quality visual effects and ensures seamless integration with existing legacy simulation systems. Additionally, the platform incorporates TerraTools Platinum, a sophisticated terrain-generation tool that enables rapid creation and modification of practice maps based on real-world Geographic Information System data.
The contract with the Canadian Army spans five years, with an option for a three-year extension dedicated to sustainment support. Pete Morrison, Chief Product Officer at BISim, expressed pride in the company’s role in advancing the Canadian Army’s training capabilities: “We’re proud to support the Canadian Army’s vision for modern, flexible training with a proven, battle-tested virtual platform. Whether rehearsing for rural maneuvers or complex urban operations, the Canadian Army can train with confidence on highly authentic virtual terrains.”
This contract reflects BISim’s ongoing commitment to enhancing virtual training capabilities for military forces across the globe. The initiative aligns with previous projects where BISim provided Virtual Battlespace 4 to the US Army as part of its Games for Training initiative. In addition, BISim has collaborated with military organizations in countries such as Germany, the UK, New Zealand, and NATO, focusing on various aspects of military operations including dismounted missions, armored vehicle control, and weapon systems deployment.
