State-owned defence and heavy equipment manufacturer BEML Limited has announced a significant win, securing a ₹294 crore order from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of 150 high-mobility vehicles (HMVs). This contract is seen as a pivotal step forward for indigenous defence manufacturing, aligning with the Government of India’s Make in India initiative.
The vehicles in question are 6×6 high-mobility variants, designed to navigate extreme terrains, high altitudes, and challenging climatic conditions. Their exceptional reliability and versatility are crucial for meeting the operational demands of the Indian Armed Forces. The order will primarily be fulfilled at BEML’s facilities in Palakkad and Mysore, with additional production support coming from other divisions as required.
BEML’s Chairman and Managing Director, Shantanu Roy, emphasized the significance of this order, stating it highlights the company’s capabilities in delivering advanced indigenous products that strengthen India’s defence infrastructure. He expressed pride in BEML’s commitment to the Make in India initiative and its dedication to providing high-quality, locally developed solutions for the armed forces.
Operating under the Ministry of Defence, BEML has diversified key business verticals that include defence and aerospace, rail and metro, as well as construction and mining sectors.
