Blighter Secures Contract for B400 Series Radars for Southeast Asia Border Surveillance

Blighter has successfully secured a follow-on contract with a military client in Southeast Asia to deliver B400 series radars aimed at enhancing border surveillance capacities. This strategic move is expected to bolster the region’s security measures, as the radars are intricately designed to enhance situational awareness by enabling operators to detect, track, and classify small surface targets alongside near-ground aerial threats.

The B400 radars are characterized by their compact and modular design, incorporating low-power frequency-modulated continuous-wave electronic scanning technology. This advanced capability allows for the precise detection of moving targets across expansive areas, ensuring comprehensive surveillance coverage. The systems are capable of detecting and identifying both vehicles and individuals at impressive ranges of up to 32 kilometers (20 miles).

In addition to the radar systems, Blighter plans to integrate its AI-assisted BlighterNexus software with the B400 radars. This integration will facilitate seamless communication with existing sensors, enabling operators to maintain a common operating picture in strategic border areas, thereby enhancing overall operational efficiency.

The deployment of the radar systems will be conducted by a local systems integration partner, tasked with mounting the radars onto specialized army vehicles for swift repositioning to border hotspots. The versatility of the B400 radars allows for various installation options, including trailer-mounting on elevated masts or dismounting and setting up on tripods in areas that may be challenging for vehicles to access.

Blighter, a UK-based company, specializes in developing radar systems tailored for tactical surveillance that includes both long-range and mobile solutions. Their innovative approach to radar technology has seen recent advancements, including the launch of their longest-range “smart” radar in June, capable of detecting human targets from 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) away, thereby enhancing interception capabilities.

Earlier in 2023, Blighter garnered attention when Raytheon selected the company to supply and integrate two A800 3D electronic scanning radars within the UK’s Laser Directed Energy Weapon system, aimed at improving detection and targeting in the face of small drone threats. Furthermore, a contract secured in 2022 with a northern European NATO customer was directed towards the development of the B422 180-degree e-scanning radar for border security operations, created for rapid deployment on six-wheeled unmanned ground vehicles.

This recent contract reinforces Blighter’s commitment to advancing security technologies and enhancing military operational capabilities across various global regions.
