In a significant step toward strengthening military ties, Brazil’s Lieutenant General Carlos Eduardo Barbosa Da Costa met with India’s Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, in New Delhi on Monday. This high-level dialogue highlights the growing defense relationship between the two key players in the Global South.
The discussions took place at Army Headquarters and focused on enhancing strategic cooperation in various aspects, including joint military training, capability development, and intelligence sharing. This meeting builds on previous bilateral agreements, notably a 2020 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cybersecurity and a collaborative MoU concerning the joint production of the C-390 military transport aircraft manufactured by Embraer.
General Dwivedi, who assumed his role as India’s Army Chief in June 2024, highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Indian Army to integrate next-generation technologies—a vision that resonates with General Barbosa’s outlook. The leaders exchanged thoughts on global defense trends and expressed mutual concerns regarding the increasing military-technical cooperation between China and Russia.
The meeting concluded with a ceremonial exchange of mementos, symbolizing the mutual respect and shared commitment to bolstering cooperation between the two nations.
