For his extraordinary actions amidst such peril, Captain Hanagi was bestowed with the prestigious Sena Medal (Gallantry) at a defence investiture ceremony in Mathura on February 14, 2025.

The medal was awarded by Northern Army Commander Lt Gen M V Suchindra Kumar, who acknowledged and honored the bravery exhibited not only by Captain Hanagi but by numerous others in the Indian Army.

Reflecting on his overwhelming experience, Captain Hanagi, a second-generation soldier hailing from Karnataka, expressed humility in receiving the award. He dedicated the honor to his unit, the EME Corps, and especially to the team members he was privileged to serve alongside.

In a heartfelt message, he stated, “I am humbled to receive the Sena Medal for my tenure at the world’s highest battlefield. I dedicate this award to my unit and especially to the men I had the privilege to serve with. Their composure and courage in extreme adversity enabled me to fulfill my duty.”

The investiture ceremony served as an occasion to honor not only Captain Hanagi but also a collective of heroes. Lt Gen Kumar recognized 47 officers, junior commissioned officers (JCOs), and non-commissioned officers (NCOs) for their exceptional service.
