As the countdown to the 77th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path begins, Captain Samira Buttar of the Indian Army is set to take a prominent role by leading the Integrated Operations Centre tableau. This honor comes at a poignant moment for Captain Buttar, as she navigates the profound loss of her father, Colonel Sarabjeet Singh Buttar (retd).

Captain Buttar, a fourth-generation Army officer, has chosen to fulfill her duties amidst her grief, embodying the Army’s enduring principle of “Service Before Self.” She views her participation in the Republic Day Parade not just as a personal achievement but as a heartfelt tribute to her father. “This opportunity holds deep emotional meaning for me,” she remarked, acknowledging the demanding weeks of preparation and early-morning drills that have transformed her sorrow into a steadfast commitment to her role.

Hailing from Chandigarh, Captain Buttar comes from a distinguished military lineage. Her grandfather, Brigadier Sampuran Singh Buttar (retd), was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, and her great-grandfather, Risaldar Major Rattan Singh, served in the cavalry. She shared her lifelong aspiration of donning the military uniform, stating that leading a tableau showcasing the success of Operation Sindoor is an unparalleled honor for any officer.

In a recent interview, Captain Buttar shared insights into her role, emphasizing that the Integrated Operations Centre tableau symbolizes a cohesive national effort marked by the success of Operation Sindoor. “It represents synergy between political leadership, the armed forces, and the people of India,” she explained. She highlighted the significance of India’s growing indigenous military capabilities and operational readiness.

Although her family will not be able to attend the parade due to their recent bereavement, Captain Buttar is determined to honor her father’s legacy. She is confident that he would have wanted her to lead from the front, as he consistently encouraged her commitment to serving in the Army.

Her presence on Kartavya Path serves as a moving testament to the intertwining of personal loss and national duty. Captain Samira Buttar stands as a symbol of unyielding resolve and dedication, ensuring that the legacy of service within her family remains unbroken even in times of profound grief.
