Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General NS Raja Subramani conducted his inaugural visit to the Headquarters of the Western Air Command (WAC), engaging with key leadership and officers from the Indian Air Force to outline the future direction of India’s military transformation.
Upon his arrival, General Subramani was welcomed by Air Marshal George Thomas, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Air Command. During their discussions, the CDS received comprehensive briefings regarding the command’s operational responsibilities, its current readiness levels, and ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing capabilities.
In his address to the officers, General Subramani emphasized the transformative potential encapsulated in the principles of JAI—Jointness, Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), and Innovation. He underscored the importance of these pillars as vital to creating a modern and integrated military force that is well-prepared for future challenges.
The CDS spoke passionately about the escalating need for joint operations and inter-service cooperation, asserting that such synergy among the Army, Navy, and Air Force is crucial for bolstering India’s defence preparedness and operational capacity. This emphasis on collaboration is seen as essential for addressing increasingly complex security threats both regionally and globally.
Reiterating the significance of Atmanirbhar Bharat, General Subramani called for a rapid advancement in indigenous capability development and technological innovation. He urged the military to harness domestic expertise to reduce reliance on foreign defence technologies and to foster a self-sustaining defence ecosystem in India.
Additionally, the CDS pointed to Human Resource Capital as a pivotal force multiplier, asserting that the strength, professionalism, and adaptability of military personnel are foundational to combat effectiveness. He stressed the necessity for investments in leadership training, skill enhancement, and overall professional development of the Armed Forces, aimed at equipping them for the evolving operational landscape.
