Army Chief Gen Pandey on LAC Situation
When asked if the current situation on the India-China border was the new normal, the Army chief stated that we can only find a solution through dialogue and talking to each other. “Until a resolution is reached, our deployment of forces and alertness level will remain at a high level,” General Pande said.
The Indian Army chief was speaking in New Delhi at the India Today Conclave 2023. He was speaking about the challenges of next-generation warfare in the face of new threats and artificial intelligence (AI). “Overall, the situation along the LAC is stable, but we must keep a close eye on how it develops. In terms of the adversary’s deployment of forces, there has been no significant reduction in deployment. There is a strong emphasis on modernizing forces, particularly those deployed opposite the LAC “According to General Pande.

In outlining the situation, he added that infrastructure development on the other side is moving at a breakneck pace, whether it is road infrastructure in the form of highways that run along the LAC or the upgrading of airfields and helipads. These are some significant developments to be aware of, particularly in light of the adversary’s ability to mobilize troops.
“In terms of what we are doing, we have a strong deployment along the LAC and in all three sectors. We have sufficient reserves to deal with any unforeseen events. Our capability development is an ongoing process as new technology and weapon systems are introduced. We are concentrating on infrastructure development, particularly forward area roads, and helipads.”
In terms of resolving outstanding issues, the chief stated that they were able to resolve some of the friction points at the military level. The commander’s meeting was held in December, and diplomatic meetings are still ongoing, so “we can look forward to resolution going forward.”
On the lessons learned from the Russia-Ukraine war, the COAS stated that the land will continue to be a decisive domain in warfare, particularly in our case where we have contested land borders. In our context, victory will remain centered on land.
