Current Affairs 01 October 2025

As October 2025 begins, India has witnessed a series of major developments spanning infrastructure, trade, wildlife conservation, security, and cultural diplomacy. From landmark railway projects with Bhutan to operationalizing a European trade agreement, these initiatives reflect India’s growing role in regional and global affairs.

India, Bhutan Approve First-Ever Rail Links

In a transformative step towards regional integration, India and Bhutan have approved their first cross-border railway links. The Kokrajhar–Gelephu and Banarhat–Samtse projects are expected to strengthen economic and strategic cooperation between the two nations.

  • Kokrajhar–Gelephu Line: A 70-km stretch with six stations and nearly 100 bridges, budgeted at ₹3,456 crore, connecting Assam’s Kokrajhar district with Bhutan’s Gelephu.
  • Banarhat–Samtse Line: A shorter route linking West Bengal’s Banarhat in Jalpaiguri district with Bhutan’s Samtse.

These projects are poised to enhance bilateral trade, mobility, and diplomatic relations across the Himalayan frontier.

Government to Mandate Sound Alerts in EVs by 2027

The Indian government has announced that all new electric vehicles (EVs)—including cars, buses, and trucks—will be required to feature an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) starting October 1, 2027.

AVAS will emit artificial sounds to warn pedestrians, cyclists, and road users of approaching EVs, which operate nearly silently. With this move, India joins countries like the US, Japan, and the European Union, where similar safety mandates already exist.
