PM Narendra Modi Reaches Singapore

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Lion City, Singapore in the second leg of his two nation tour after concluding his succesful visit to Brunei. Mr Modi is visiting the country at the invitation of his counterpart, Lawrence Wong.
  • Mr Modi said he had an excellent discussion on a wide range of issues with Mr Wong . He added that India cherishes the friendship with Singapore.

  • Both leaders will meet to review the progress of the India-Singapore Strategic Partnership and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
  • Prime Minister Modi will have meetings with the President of Singapore and several other dignitaries. He will also visit AEM, a semiconductor facility. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet with the CEOs of Singaporean companies.

  • Important visit as it gives a major push to India’s Act East policy. Mr Modi is visiting Singapore after nearly six years.
  • India has robust defense cooperation with Singapore, and trade and investment flows have shown steady growth in the recent times.
  • Singapore is India’s largest trade partner in ASEAN and a leading source of foreign direct investment.
  • India and Brunei signed an MoU for cooperation in the operation of the Telemetry, Tracking, and Telecommand Station for Satellites and Launch Vehicles. The two countries also decided to elevate the bilateral ties to Enhanced Partnership to further strengthen, deepen relationship in all areas of mutual interest.
  • two leaders took stock of bilateral relations including in areas of defence, trade and investment, energy, space technology, health and pharmaceuticals, capacity building, culture and people-to-people ties.

National Teachers Award 2024

  • President Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Award 2024 to 82 teachers in New Delhi.
  • Every year, the country celebrates 5th September, the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, as National Teachers’ Day. Union Education Ministry said the purpose of the National Teachers’ Awards is to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers in the country and to honour those teachers who have not only improved the quality of school education but also enriched the lives of their students.

  • The Department of School Education and Literacy has selected 50 teachers for this year’s National Teachers’ Awards. They have been selected through a rigorous transparent and online three stages – District, State and National level selection process.

  • The 50 selected teachers are from 28 States, three Union Territories and six Organizations. In addition, 16 teachers from the Department of Higher Education and 16 teachers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will also be awarded.
  • Each award carries a certificate of merit, a cash award of 50 thousand rupees and a silver medal.

Alcoholic Beverage Exports

  • The government has planned to promote both Indian alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages globally, with a target of one billion dollars in export revenue over the next few years.
  • Agricultural and Processed Food Export Development Authority has been working to increase exports of Indian spirits to major foreign destinations. India currently ranks 40th in the world for alcoholic beverage exports.

Notary Portal

  • Union Minister for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, launched the new Notary Portal in New Delhi.
  • Mr. Meghwal hailed the launch of the dedicated Notary Portal as an important step forward towards providing a paperless, faceless, and efficient system—a step towards the goal of digital India.
  • Minister further said that this portal has been made in a user-friendly manner and will help the Notaries and the public.

  • Notary Portal provides an online interface between the notaries and the government for various services like submission of applications for appointment as notaries, issuance and renewal of Certificates of Practice, change of practice area, and submission of annual returns.
  • With the launch of the Notary Portal, the Central Notaries will not be required to submit applications and requests in physical mode. They can submit applications online, monitor their progress, and download digitally signed Certificates of Practice from their Digilocker accounts.

International Conference On Green Hydrogen

  • India will hold the second edition of the International Conference on Green Hydrogen from 11th to 13th September in New Delhi.
  • New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi announced this while addressing the curtain-raiser event today. He highlighted the crucial role of Green Hydrogen in driving India and other developed nations towards a clean and green energy transition.

  • Mr. Joshi encouraged stakeholders to explore the evolving Green Hydrogen landscape. He added that the goal of this three-day event is to deepen our understanding of the green hydrogen landscape and foster connections with global scientific communities and industries.

Lab Mitra

  • An initiative called ‘Lab Mitra’ started in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi was awarded the National e-Governance Gold Award at the National e-Governance Conference 2024 held yesterday in Mumbai.
  • The award was given for Administrative Reforms and district-level initiatives in e-governance.

  • The initiative named ‘Lab Mitra’ started by the district administration of Varanasi with the help of a private bank and NGO has been quite successful, and the Lab Mitra model has now been started in the name of ‘Lab Report’ in the entire UP.
  • The facility is being provided at 20 hospitals, including all government hospitals in Varanasi, and more than 2.5 lakh patients have benefitted from it till date.

  • Using the ‘Lab Mitra’ portal, patients coming to the government hospital are registered for laboratory tests as per the doctor’s prescription, and after the test, the system generates an online report, which is sent as a link on a text message to the patient’s phone number.
  • By clicking on this link, the patient can get his complete lab test report after four hours of testing at the CHC and after 12 hours of testing at a government hospital.

Vedic-3D Museum

  • Uttar Pradesh government has announced the construction of a Vedic-3D museum at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency.
  • This state-of-the-art museum will focus on Indian astrology, astronomy, and Vedic literature.
  • Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made the announcement during his visit to the university, highlighting its role in showcasing the evolution of Vedic literature, including the 16 Sanskars, 64 arts, and 18 Vidya Sthans, as well as the contributions of Indian sages.

  • The museum will exhibit rare manuscripts preserved in the historic Saraswati Bhawan, such as the “Raas Panchadhyayi,” Shrimad Bhagwat Gita, and Durgasaptashati, all intricately inscribed and adorned with gold artistry.
  • It aims to revive the tradition of ‘Shastrartha’ (spiritual discourse) and serve as a platform for deepening knowledge in Vedic literature.

  • During his visit, CM Yogi Adityanath also inspected the 234-year-old main building of the university.
  • He approved the proposal to reintegrate the Government Ayurvedic Mahavidyalaya, Chaukaghat, as a faculty of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University.
  • Chief Minister emphasized improvements in infrastructure, including the installation of Sanskrit signboards, enhancement of sewer and drainage systems, repair of dilapidated roads, and the construction of a boundary wall.

World Deaf Shooting Championship

  • World Deaf Shooting Championship in Hannover, Germany, teenage shooter Anuya Prasad from Jaipur secured the gold medal in the women’s air pistol event.

  • Alongside Anuya Prasad’s gold, Abhinav Deshwal won silver in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol event.
  • Deshwal, along with teammates Shubham Vashist and Chetan Sapkal, also earned silver in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol Team event.
  • Additionally, Shubham Vashist claimed a bronze medal in the same individual event. A total of 69 athletes from 16 countries competed for these honors.

Paris Paralympics

  • India’s Shot Put thrower Sachin Sarjerao Khilari clinched the Silver medal in the Men’s Shot Put -F46 Final, with a walloping throw of 16.32m.

  • Harvinder Singh created history by winning a Gold in the men’s archery individual recurve open final. He became the first and only Indian archer to clinch a gold medal at the Paralympics or Olympics.

  • In the Men’s Club Throw F51 Final, Dharambir smashed the Asian record with a throw of 34.92 meters to claim the gold, while Pranav Soorma bagged a silver with a throw of 34.59 meters
