Bodhi Day 2025: Celebrating the Enlightenment of Buddha
Bodhi Day will be observed worldwide on Monday, December 8, 2025, as Buddhist communities reflect on one of the most profound spiritual moments in history—the enlightenment of Siddhartha Gautama. More than 2,500 years ago, Siddhartha attained Bodhi or supreme awakening while meditating beneath the sacred Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India.
The day is a gentle reminder of the journey from delusion to wisdom and embodies the core Buddhist values of self-discovery, compassion, mindfulness, and liberation. According to tradition, Prince Siddhartha vowed not to rise until he grasped the ultimate truth. After days of deep contemplation under the peepal (Ficus religiosa) tree, he attained nirvana and became the Buddha—“The Awakened One.”
International Civil Aviation Day 2025
Observed every year on December 7, International Civil Aviation Day recognizes the huge contribution of global air travel to international connectivity and economic progress. The day also marks the establishment of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), responsible for regulating safety and standards in civil aviation.
The theme for 2025 continues ICAO’s 80th anniversary message:
“Safe Skies. Sustainable Future: Together for All.”
It highlights the need for secure, efficient, and environmentally responsible air transport systems that unite nations and promote sustainable development.
Armed Forces Flag Day 2025
India observes Armed Forces Flag Day on December 7, honoring the bravery, sacrifice, and service of personnel from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The day also recognizes veterans, war widows, and families of fallen soldiers.
Originating in 1949 after a Defence Ministry initiative proposed a special day to mobilize public support, Flag Day has since become a symbol of the nation’s collective gratitude. Citizens contribute to welfare funds, wear flag stickers, and participate in events dedicated to India’s defence community.
Mahaparinirvan Diwas 2025
Every year on December 6, India pays homage to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and a champion of social equality. The 2025 observance marks his 68th death anniversary.
Commemorations are especially significant at Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai, where thousands gather to honour his legacy.
The term “Mahaparinirvan”, rooted in Buddhist teachings, refers to the final release from the cycle of birth and rebirth. It symbolizes complete liberation—an idea closely associated with Dr. Ambedkar, who embraced Buddhism in 1956, leading one of the largest mass conversions in modern history.
