Indian Air Force Day 2025

Indian Air Force Day is celebrated every year on October 8, and in 2025, it marks the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Indian Air Force (IAF), established in 1932. The day is dedicated to honouring the bravery, professionalism, and dedication of IAF personnel who safeguard the nation’s skies.

The celebration includes air shows, parades, and exhibitions at various air bases across India, highlighting the country’s advancing aerial capabilities. The theme for the 2025 celebration emphasizes modernization and operational preparedness, blending India’s proud aviation heritage with the latest technological innovations.

Over the decades, the IAF has evolved into one of the most powerful air forces in the world. It has played key roles in several major operations such as:

  • The 1947–48 Kashmir conflict
  • The Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971
  • The Kargil War of 1999
  • Various disaster relief missions and UN peacekeeping operations

The IAF functions through seven commands — five operational and two functional — under the leadership of the Air Chief Marshal. Entry into the IAF as an officer can be pursued through NDA, CDS, and AFCAT examinations.

Iran Approves Currency Redenomination to Tackle Inflation

In a major economic reform, the Iranian Parliament has approved a plan to remove four zeros from the national currency, the Rial, to address severe inflation and simplify financial transactions.

Due to years of economic instability and international sanctions, the free market exchange rate has reached approximately 1,150,000 rials per US dollar, causing major challenges in everyday transactions and accounting. The redenomination plan, approved in October 2025, aims to make the currency easier to use without changing its real value.

According to Shamsoldin Hossein, head of the Iranian Parliament’s Economic Commission, this reform will make the rial more practical for citizens. The transition will take place over three years, following a two-year preparation phase.

Key Facts:

  • Country: Iran
  • Currency: Rial
  • Exchange Rate: ~1,150,000 rials per USD (free market)
  • Reform: Removal of four zeros from the Rial
  • Transition Period: 5 years (2-year prep + 3-year implementation)

Philippines Launches Southeast Asia’s First Coral Cryobank

In a groundbreaking step for marine conservation, the Philippines has established Southeast Asia’s first Coral Larvae Cryobank, a facility designed to preserve coral genetic material and protect reef ecosystems.

This initiative comes amid rising threats to global coral populations due to climate change, bleaching, and pollution. The cryobank is part of a multinational collaboration involving institutions from the Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Using cryopreservation technology, coral larvae are frozen at –196°C in liquid nitrogen to pause all biological activity, allowing them to be revived later for reef restoration and biodiversity conservation. The project is especially significant for the Coral Triangle, often referred to as the “Amazon of the Seas”, known for its rich marine biodiversity.

Types of Coral Reefs:

  • Fringing Reefs – Found close to shorelines
  • Barrier Reefs – Located farther offshore, separated by lagoons
  • Atolls – Circular reefs surrounding submerged volcanic islands
