“Constitution Glorification Campaign”
- Union Minister for Parliamentary and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, announced that the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution, on November 26, will be commemorated with a nationwide “Constitution Glorification Campaign” in every village.
- Speaking at a press conference in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Rijiju highlighted the government’s initiative to construct Constitution buildings in every district. Mr. Rijiju also visited Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s residence and interacted with Scheduled Caste entrepreneurs.
Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd
- Government has approved the upgradation of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to 14th Maharatna, Central Public Sector Enterprises.
- Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has approved the upgradation of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to Maharatna CPSE.
- It said the proposal had earlier been recommended by the Inter-Ministerial Committee headed by the Finance Secretary and the Apex Committee headed by the Cabinet Secretary.
- Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is a Department of Defence Production, CPSE with an annual turnover of 28 thousand 162 crore rupees and net profit of over seven thousand five hundred crore rupees in 2023-24.
India : 3rd Largest Supplier Of Health & Nutrition
- United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has said that Indian suppliers are the third largest provider of organisation’s health and nutrition support to children globally.
- Indian businesses have supplied goods and services worth nearly six billion dollars to UNICEF for its global work.
- UNICEF’s supply division Director, Leila Pakkala, who was on her first official visit to India, said that Indian suppliers of life-saving goods and services for children are key to UNICEF’s work for children globally.
- She also mentioned that UNICEF values these contributions which are central to its mission of saving the lives of the most vulnerable children not only in India but around the world.
149th IPU Assembly in Geneva
- Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will lead a Parliamentary delegation to 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) scheduled to be held in Geneva.
- Mr. Birla will address the assembly on the theme “Harnessing science, technology and innovation for a more peaceful and sustainable future.”
- He will participate in the meetings of the IPU’s Governing council and will meet the Indian Diaspora in Geneva on 14th of this month.
- The Delegation comprises of Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh Singh, Secretary General of both the houses and various other Member of Parliament.
- The IPU has 180 member parliaments and 15 associate members. Members include parliaments from large countries like China, India, and Indonesia, as well as smaller countries like Cabo Verde, San Marino, and Palau.
India And Laos
- India and Lao PDR signed six MoUs and agreements in the fields including defence cooperation, customs, audio-visual, and preservation of heritage.
- India has also decided to provide one million US dollar financial assistance to a project to improve nutrition security in Laos with food fortification through the India-UN Development Partnership Fund.
- The MoUs were exchanged in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Lao PDR counterpart Sonexay Siphandone in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
- Prime Minister congratulated President Sisoulith for successfully hosting the ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit.
- President Sisoulith thanked Mr. Modi for India’s humanitarian assistance to Lao PDR in the wake of floods caused by Typhoon Yagi.
Nobel Peace Prize For Disarmament
- Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese organization made up of survivors of the atomic bombings, known as the Hibakusha.
- This prize highlights the critical role these survivors have played in raising awareness about the devastating impact of nuclear weapons and their ongoing work to create a world free from nuclear arms.
- During World War II, scientists discovered how to split atoms, a process called nuclear fission, which led to the creation of atomic bombs.
- The United States dropped two atomic bombs on Japan in August 1945, targeting the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
- These bombs caused massive destruction and killed tens of thousands of people instantly, with many more dying later from radiation effects.
- The bombings forced Japan to surrender, ending the war, but they also sparked a worldwide debate about the ethics of using such powerful weapons.
- Hibakusha is the Japanese word for survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings.
- Many Hibakusha suffered long-term health problems from radiation exposure, and their stories are a powerful reminder of the horrors of nuclear warfare.
- Their experiences have been essential in the global fight for nuclear disarmament, helping people understand the catastrophic consequences of using these weapons.
- The efforts of Nihon Hidankyo and other peace organizations have helped create what is known as the “nuclear taboo.” This is a widespread belief that using nuclear weapons is unacceptable. This taboo has been influential in preventing their use in conflict since World War II.
- However, this belief is being challenged as more countries develop nuclear weapons and existing nuclear powers expand their arsenals.
- Nihon Hidankyo continues to work to strengthen this taboo and prevent any future use of nuclear weapons.
- Nihon Hidankyo, founded in 1956, is a group that brings together atomic bomb survivors from across Japan. The full name of the organization translates to “Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations.”
- Their mission is to advocate for nuclear disarmament and protect the rights of Hibakusha.
- The group works to educate people about the dangers of nuclear war and collects stories from survivors to preserve their experiences.
