ET World Leaders Forum
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will serve as the chief guest at the inaugural ET World Leaders Forum, in New Delhi.
- The forum aims to address India’s role in global economic growth, innovation, and policy-making amidst a backdrop of global economic stagnation.
- Theme: “Leadership for Global Prosperity”.
- The event will feature around 400 participants, including corporate executives, entrepreneurs, investors, and policy experts. Objective: To explore opportunities arising from India’s rapid economic progress and its impact on global prosperity.
- The forum will address how India is emerging as a beacon of hope in a stagnating global economy, with discussions on geopolitical instability and economic opportunities.
- Domestic Focus: The agenda will cover India’s untapped domestic markets, its strong post-pandemic recovery, and potential for further economic growth driven by demographic dividends and policy reforms.
EOS-08 From Sriharikota
- India’s new rocket Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV-D3) lifted off with an earth observation satellite-08 (EOS-08) weighing 175.5 kg.
- Piggybacking on that was another small satellite SR-0 made by a Chennai based start-up Space Rickshaw SR-0.
- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed SSLV with a carrying capacity of 500 kg to the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) based on the market trend of going in for smaller satellites.
- The 34-metre tall and about 119-ton expendable rocket costing about Rs 56 crore broke free of the first launch pad and started its one-way journey upwards.
- As to the mission’s objectives, ISRO said that it will complete the SSLV Development Project and enable operational missions by Indian industry and the public sector NewSpace India Ltd.
National Coal Index Drops
- National Coal Index (NCI Provisional) has shown a decline of 3.48 percent in June 2024 at 142.13 points compared to June 2023, where it was at 147.25 points.
- This indicates sufficient availability of coal in the market to meet the growing demands. The impressive growth of 14.58 percent in the country’s coal production during June 2024 as compared to the corresponding period of last year ensures a stable supply to various sectors reliant on coal, significantly contributing to the overall energy security of the nation.
- The downward trajectory of the NCI signifies a more equitable market, harmonising supply and demand dynamics.
- The Financial Year 2017-18 being determined to be the base year, NCI serves as a reliable indicator of market dynamics, providing valuable insights into price fluctuations.
- NCI is a price index that combines coal prices from all sales channels, such as notified prices, auction prices, and import prices. It considers prices of coking and non-coking coal of various grades transacted in the regulated (power and fertiliser) and non-regulated sectors.
‘Kisano Ki Baat’
- Government Will Start A Programme Called Kisano Ki Baat On Radio To Make Science Accessible To Farmers. It Will Be Modeled After PM Modi’s Monthly Mann Ki Baat Programme. Interacting With Farmers, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan Said Along With Him, Agricultural Scientists And Department Officials Will Provide Information To The Farmers.
70th National Film Awards
- 70th National Film Awards for the year 2022 were announced in New Delhi.
- Rishab Shetty won the Best Actor award for his stupendous performance in the film Kantara. The Best Actress award was won by Nithya Menen for the Tamil film Thiruchitrambalam and Manasi Parekh for the Gujarati film Kutch Express.
- The awards were announced by the Chairperson of the Feature Film Jury, Rahul Rawail, Chairperson of the Non-Feature Film Jury, Nila Madhab Panda, and Chairperson of the Best Writing on Cinema Jury, Gangadhar Mudaliar.
- The award for Best Book on Cinema has been given to Kishore Kumar: The Ultimate Biography authored by Anirudha Bhattacharjee and Parthiv Dhar. The Malayalam film Aattam won the Best Feature Film, while Ayena emerged as the Best Non-Feature Film.
- The Best Director award went to Sooraj Barjatya for his film Uunchai. In the feature film category, the Best Hindi Film award was bagged by Gulmohar, While the Haryanvi film Fouja was adjudged the Best Lyrics award in the non-feature film category.
- The Best Male Playback Singer award was given to Arijit Singh, and the Best Female Playback Singer award went to Bombay Jayashri. Several films, including Ponniyin Selvan Part I, KGF 2, Brahmastra, Aparajito, Emuthi Puthi, Kaberi Antardhan, Daman, and Baghi Di Dhee, also received awards. In the non-feature film category, Aaina won the best non-feature film award.
- In the feature film category, the best Hindi film award was bagged by Gulmohar.
International Conference On Law And Technology
- An international conference on “Law and Technology: Sustainable, Transport, Tourism and Technological Innovations” organised by the Commonwealth Legal Education Association will be inaugurated jointly by Chief Justice of India Dr D Y Chandrachud and the Chief Justice of Seychelles Justice Roney Govinden at Kumarakom in Kottayam district, Kerala.
- Supreme Court judges, High Court judges, Attorney Generals, legal luminaries, academicians and technocrats are participating in the three-day conference.
- Judges from Malaysia, Seychelles, Nepal, Fiji and Vice Chancellors from the National Law Universities are also participating in the event.
- The conference aims to foster international cooperation, share best practices and develop innovative legal solutions to complex challenges pertaining to sustainable transport and tourism.
Anti-Cancer Drugs to Syria
- India has sent humanitarian assistance to Syria. External Affairs Ministry’s spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a social media post said that in keeping with its humanitarian commitments, India has despatched anti-cancer drugs to Syria. He added that the consignment of approximately one thousand 400 kilograms will support the Syrian government and its people combat the disease.
84 Athletes To Paris Paralympics
- The largest-ever contingent of 84 players will take part in the upcoming Paris Paralympic Games this year. The Paralympic Games will take place from the 28th of this month to the 8th of September 2024.
- Forty-seven athletes are taking part in the games for the first time. Addressing the send-off ceremony of the Indian contingent participating in the Paris Paralympic Games, Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that there are 50 players in this team who benefited from the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).
- He said the government has provided every facility, such as training and coaching, to the players under this scheme.
- Mr. Mandaviya said that many of the players have emerged from the Khelo India games.
- They expressed confidence that they will perform well and win a medal for the country. In the last Paralympic Games held in Tokyo, Indian players performed well, winning 19 medals. In those games, 54 players participated from the Indian side.
Germany Joins United Nations Command
- Germany’s recent inclusion in the U.S.-led United Nations Command (UNC) in South Korea marks a significant expansion of the command’s member states, now totaling 18 nations.

- UNC Established in 1950, the UNC was created to restore peace and enforce the Korean War armistice, serving as a communication channel with North Korea. The command, led by the U.S. military commander in South Korea, operates independently of the United Nations.
