‘Hello Naariyal’ Call Centre Launched By CDB
- The Coconut Development Board (CDB) has taken a significant step in aiding coconut farmers and improving cultivation methods with the launch of the “Hello Naariyal” Friends of Coconut Trees (FoCT) call center.
- This initiative is geared towards supporting farmers in various aspects of coconut harvesting and plant management.
- The main goal of the “Hello Naariyal” project is to establish a dedicated platform that caters to the needs of coconut growers by providing expert guidance and assistance related to coconut cultivation.
- This initiative aims to benefit not just farmers in Kerala but also those in traditional coconut-growing states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka through their respective Coconut Development Board unit offices.

- US President Joe Biden has recently announced several key appointments, including the notable selection of Indian American Shakuntla L Bhaya to serve in a crucial role.
- According to the White House, Bhaya has been appointed as a member of the Council of the Administrative Conference of the United States.
- Shakuntla L Bhaya, a co-owner of the Law Offices of Doroshow, Pasquale, Krawitz & Bhaya, a statewide Delaware law firm, brings a wealth of legal experience to her new role.

Amit S Telang
- The Ministry of External Affairs has announced that High Commissioner of India to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Amit S Telang has been concurrently accredited as the Indian Ambassador to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and High Commissioner to the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda.
- Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Anil Kumar Rai has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
Finland To Close Four Crossing Points
- Finland has announced that four of the nine crossing points on its long eastern border with Russia will be closed.
- Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said that it is an attempt to stem the flow of asylum seekers.
- According to media reports, the move comes in response to a sharp increase in the number of asylum-seekers from countries such as Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, and Syria.
- Finland shares a 1,340-kilometer frontier with Russia, which also serves as the EU’s external border with Russia. There are only nine crossing points, one of which is only a railway.
Loneliness A Pressing Global Health Threat – WHO
- The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared loneliness as a pressing global health threat.
- The WHO also launched an international commission on the problem, led by the US surgeon general, Dr Vivek Murthy.
- The commission will run for three years. Dr Murthy said that the mortality effects of loneliness are equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
- He said, the rate of ‘one in four’ older people experiencing social isolation is similar in all regions of the world.
- It comes after the Covid-19 pandemic halted economic and social activity, increasing levels of loneliness, but also amid rising awareness of the importance of the issue.
Herbicide Glyphosate
- The European Union approved the use of the controversial herbicide Glyphosate for another 10 years.
- Meanwhile, the EU Commission said that there will be new conditions and restrictions including a prohibition of pre-harvest use as a desiccant and the need for certain measures to protect non-target organisms.
- Representatives of EU states were unable to reach a decision last month, and a new vote by an appeal committee was again inconclusive. The current period of authorization was due to expire in mid-December.
- Glyphosate is one of the most widely used weedkiller in the world, however, critics point to evidence that it may cause cancer and pose a risk to biodiversity.
Conference On ‘Aerospace And Aviation In 2047’
- President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate a two-day International Conference-cum-Exhibition on ‘Aerospace and Aviation in 2047’ in New Delhi.
- Defence Ministry said the Aeronautical Society of India, AeSI is organising the event to commemorate 75 years of excellence of the AeSI.
- The inaugural session will include the release of a Compendium on 75 years of aerospace and aviation journey in India as well as Vision Document 2047.
- The event will focus on India’s journey in the field over the last 75 years, showcasing the achievements, technological advancements, and the role of great visionaries.
