India’s First Regional Rail, RAPIDX

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India’s first Regional Rail, RAPIDX from Sahibabad,  Uttar Pradesh.
  • The first phase will cover a distance of 17 kilometers which includes a total of five stations – Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot.
  • The trains will run at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour at an interval of 15 minutes.
  • The RapidX, also known as the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), is a semi-high-speed regional rail system operated by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) in India’s National Capital Region (NCR).
  • The goal of the RapidX is to provide a dedicated rail transit network between Delhi and the other cities of the NCR.

Arindam Bagchi India’s Ambassador To UN In Geneva

  • Arindam Bagchi has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva.
  • Arindam Bagchi, presently holding the position of Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
  • This notable decision signifies a significant shift in India’s diplomatic presence in Geneva.
  • Bagchi will be taking over from the current Indian representative to the UN in Geneva, Indra Mani Pandey, who assumed the position in July 2020. Following a three-year term, Pandey is set to return to New Delhi, clearing the path for Bagchi to assume leadership.

Kempegowda International Airport

  • Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru, also known as the Bengaluru International Airport, has earned a remarkable distinction.
  • According to a recent report from aviation analytics company Cirium, the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru, also known as the Bengaluru International Airport, has achieved a notable feat. It has been honored as the “World’s most punctual airport” for the last three consecutive months.
  • This recognition highlights the airport’s unwavering dedication to timely departures and an exceptional travel experience for its passengers.
  • Cirium’s report, titled ‘The On-Time Performance Monthly Report,’ specifically praised KIA for consistently delivering outstanding on-time departure performance.
  • Managed by Bangalore International Airport Limited, the airport attained punctuality rates of 87.51% in July, 89.66% in August, and 88.51% in September.

DOLR Signs MOU With NRSC

  • The Department of Land Resources, DOLR and National Remote Sensing Centre, NRSC signed an MoU for monitoring of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana – Watershed Development Component, WDC 2.O.
  • It aims to restore the ecological balance by harnessing, conserving, and developing degraded natural resources such as soil and water.
  • The MoU was signed in the presence of Secretary, Department of Land Resources Ajay Tirkey and Secretary, Department of Space Somanath in New Delhi.

Bhopal Mahila Thana Achieves ISO Certification

  • The Bhopal Mahila Thana, located in the city of Bhopal, has achieved a significant milestone by securing ISO certification.
  • This transformation has led it to become the second ISO-certified police station in the city, with the Misrod police station being the first to achieve this recognition.
  • ISO, an independent organization representing approximately 160 countries, evaluates and issues certificates to businesses based on the quality, safety, and efficiency of their products or services.
  • The ISO certification is valid for a period of three years.

Green Energy Corridor Phase-II ISTC

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi approved the project on Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II – Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) for 13 GW Renewable Energy Project in Ladakh.
  • The project is targeted to be set up by FY 2029-30 with total estimated cost of Rs.20,773.70 crore and Central Financial Assistance (CFA) @ 40 percent of the project cost i.e. Rs.8,309.48 crore.
  •  Keeping in view the complex terrain, adverse climatic conditions and defence sensitivities of Ladakh region, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) will be the Implementing Agency for this project.
  • State of the art Voltage Source Converter (VSC) based High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) system and Extra High Voltage Alternating Current (EHVAC) systems will be deployed.
  • The project will contribute to achieving the target of 500 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuels by year 2030. The project will also help in developing long term energy security of the country and promote ecologically sustainable growth by reducing carbon footprint.
  • This project is in addition to Intra-State Transmission System Green Energy Corridor Phase-II (InSTS GEC-II), which is already under implementation in the States of Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh for grid integration and power evacuation of approx.

Egypt 1st Country To Achieve Gold Tier Status-Hepatitis C

  • The Arab Republic of Egypt has become the first country to achieve the “gold tier” status on the path to elimination of hepatitis C as per WHO criteria.
  • This means that Egypt has fulfilled WHO’s programmatic coverage targets that will set the country up to achieve the reduced incidence and mortality targets of full elimination before 2030.
  • The gold tier status to reach the stated goal of eliminating hepatitis C includes meeting specific criteria.
  • Ensuring 100% blood and injection safety, maintaining minimum of 150 niddles syringes per year for people who injected drugs, diagnosis of over 80% of people living with chronic hepatitis C virus treating of over 70% of individuals diagnosed with HCV the establishing of a sentinel surveillance program for hepatitis including liver cancer
  • WHO notes with appreciation the ongoing commitment of the Ministry of Health and Population to sustain robust screening, care and treatment services for people with HCV. Since Egypt launched its nationwide campaign, – known as the “100 million seha” campaign – which means a 100 million healthy lives – it has resulted in testing over 60 million people and treating more than 4 million people.
  • And by doing so, Egypt reduced the incidence of new infections from 300 per 100 0000 in 2014 to 9 per 100 000 in 2022. This is very close to the ultimate goal of hepatitis C elimination of less than 5 per 100 000 new cases per year and similar levels for viral hepatitis deaths.
