BRICS Virtual Summit

  • External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will represent India at the BRICS virtual summit hosted by South Africa, where the leaders of Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa, will discuss the situation of West Asia, including the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

  • The “Extraordinary Joint Meeting on the Middle East Situation in Gaza” will be hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to draw up a common response and adopt a joint statement on the more than six-week long conflict.

  • UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who’s been calling for an immediate ceasefire, will also join the meeting.
  • This will be the first BRICS meet since the Summit in August that resulted in expansion of the group. Leaders from Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates – who are all due to join the BRICS group in January 2024 – will also attend the meeting.

National Tribal Youth Exchange

  • The 15th National Tribal Youth exchange program will be held from tomorrow to the 28th of this month at Chennai.
  • State Governor R.N.Ravi will inaugurate the program at the State Youth Hostel at Chennai.
  • Two hundred youth have been selected from various districts of Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

  • The training will be given by CRPF, BSF and NYKS officials. In the program, cultural events, classical and folk arts, educational sessions will be conducted in the seven day exchange program.
  • The camps will be conducted in 25 state capitals and more than 5000 youth from the socially backward districts and tribal areas will attend the program.

Rapid Innovation And Startup Expansion

  • The Atal Innovation Mission under NITI Aayog launched a new accelerator program called Rapid Innovation and Startup Expansion (RISE) in New Delhi.
  • The program will support startups and small to mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) working on circular economy technologies and solutions in India and Australia.

  • Participating startups may also be eligible for non-equity grants up to 40 Lakh Rupees.
  • The India-Australia RISE Accelerator is delivered in partnership between the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s national science agency, and Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), the Government of India’s flagship initiative.

Bengal Global Business Summit

  • The stage is set for the 7th edition of the two-day Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) In Kolkata kicks off with business leaders from more than 25 countries, a host of prominent figures of corporate India as well as political dignitaries expected to attend the event.
  • The participating countries include the US, UK, Japan, Poland, France, Australia, Germany, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Fiji to name a few.

  • Reliance Industries Chairman  and MD Mukesh Ambani, MD of Hiranandani Group Niranjan Hiranandani, and other top industrialists such as Sanjiv Goenka, Sanjeev Puri, Purnendu Chattopadhyay, Harshvardhan Neotia and Sajjan Jindal are expected to be present, according to the State Government sources.
  • Alex Ellis, British High Commissioner to India, is leading a 55-strong delegation of senior figures from a wide range of businesses institutions which will be the biggest ever UK delegation in the summit.
  • Agri and allied industries including Blue Economy, Transport, Power, Urban Infrastructure and Planning, Creative Economy, Higher Education, School Education,Technical Education, Tourism, Health, IT & ITeS, International Trade and Logistics, Manufacturing and Industries that includes MSME and Textiles and Engineering, Plastics, & Chemicals are the focus sectors of this edition’s BGBS.

UN Forum 2023 On Humanitarian Law

  • The United Service Institution of India (USI), founded in 1870 as the country’s premier think-tank for national security and military affairs, is hosting the Annual UN Forum 2023 in New Delhi.
  • In collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Centre for UN Peacekeeping Operations, the forum will focus on the pressing theme of ‘International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Peacekeeping.’

  • This timely discussion addresses the challenges posed by contemporary conflicts and the imperative to uphold IHL principles in UN peace operations.
  • The forum aims to foster an interactive, multi-stakeholder discussion on the applicability and limitations of implementing IHL frameworks in UN peace operations.
  • It will delve into contemporary issues such as the protection of civilians, accountability for crimes against peacekeepers, the role of women in peacekeeping operations, and the integration of technology for more effective operations.

Best State In Inland Fisheries

  • Uttar Pradesh, under the leadership of the Yogi Adityanath government, has secured a notable ‘Best State’ award for inland fisheries (plain areas).
  • The state is set to receive this prestigious accolade at the two-day Global Fisheries Conference-2023 in Delhi on November 21 and 22.

  • Cabinet Minister for Fisheries, Sanjay Nishad, announced this achievement, attributing it to the relentless efforts of the government to promote fisheries and elevate the income of fishermen.
  • The success in fisheries is further underscored by the implementation of 31 projects under the Pradhan Mantri Sampada Yojna in Uttar Pradesh. A substantial sum of Rs.15,282.5 has been disbursed to beneficiaries as part of these initiatives.
  • This financial support aims to empower individuals involved in the fisheries sector and contribute to the overall growth of the industry.

Deepti Babuta

  • Deepti Babuta has etched her name in literary history by becoming the first woman to clinch the prestigious Dhahan Prize, the largest international literary award for fiction in the Punjabi language.
  • Her outstanding achievement is attributed to her compelling short story collection, ‘Bhukh Eon Sah Laindi Hai’ (‘Hunger Breathes Like This’).

  • Babuta was honored with a cash award of $25,000 CAD and a trophy during an awards ceremony held at the Northview Golf and Country Club in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
  • This recognition marks a significant milestone as it is the first time in the prize’s 10-year history that the top honor has been bestowed upon a woman.
  • Dhahan Prize Established in 2013 by the Canada India Education Society (CIES) and the University of British Columbia (UBC), the Dhahan Prize serves as a platform to elevate both aspiring and established writers, providing them the opportunity to reach a broader, multilingual audience.

Sari Walkathon

  • Ministry of Textiles launched an e-registration portal for the Sari Walkathon in New Delhi.
  • Union Minister of State for Textile Darshana Jardosh launched the portal which aimed to promote the handloom sari culture of India.
  • The walkathon will be organized at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority on the 10th of December this year.

  • According to the Ministry of Textiles, women from across the various states of the country are being invited to showcase their ways of draping saris and thereby, presenting India as a country having Unity in Diversity.
  • Participants can enroll for the sari walkathon with this e-portal in which registration will be OTP-based.
  • The Ministry said that nearly ten thousand women are expected to join this celebration of cultural diversity and empowerment with their distinctive traditional attire.
  • The gathering promises to be a vibrant tapestry, featuring not only enthusiastic participants but also notable figures from various fields, including celebrities, influential personalities and committed Anganwadi workers.
