Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti 2025
- Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti, also known as Parakram Diwas, is celebrated every year on January 23rd to honor one of India’s greatest freedom fighters, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
- In 2025, this day marks his 128th birth anniversary, recognizing his remarkable contributions to India’s independence struggle and his leadership during tough times.
- This day is observed as Parakram Diwas to honor his bravery and contribution to India’s freedom struggle. This day is celebrated to remember Netaji’s bravery, determination, and patriotism.
- His leadership and unwavering spirit during the freedom struggle continue to inspire Indians. The Government of Indian officially declared January 23rd as Parakram Diwas (Day of Valour) in 2021 to honor his extraordinary courage.
- The significance of Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti lies in honoring Netaji’s immense contributions to India’s freedom struggle. His leadership, courage and sacrifices symbolizes patriotism and inspire millions.

UNESCO And MeitY Partner
- In a significant move to align India’s artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem with global ethical standards, UNESCO’s South Asia Regional Office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Ikigai Law, organized a two-day stakeholder consultation on the AI Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM).
- Held at IIIT Bangalore and the NASSCOM AI office, respectively, the event aimed to craft an India-specific AI policy report that identifies strengths and growth opportunities within India’s AI landscape.
- The primary goal of the consultation was to develop actionable insights for the responsible and ethical adoption of AI across various sectors in India. By utilizing the AI RAM, a diagnostic tool designed to assess a country’s AI landscape—including infrastructure, legislation, components, and key stakeholders—the initiative seeks to identify opportunities for governments to engage, particularly in AI regulatory and institutional capacity-building efforts. This approach aims to foster a holistic AI ecosystem centered on safety and trust.
- This consultation aligns with India’s ambitious INDIAai Mission, which is backed by over ₹10,000 crore in funding.
- Central to the mission is the Safe and Trusted AI pillar, underscoring the commitment to ensuring safety, accountability, and ethical practices in AI development and deployment. By promoting indigenous frameworks, robust governance tools, and self-assessment guidelines, the mission aims to empower innovators and democratize AI benefits across sectors.
Minister Piyush Goyal Sets Target Of 10,000 GI Tags
- Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has set a target of reaching 10,000 Geographical Indication (GI) Tags by 2030. Addressing a GI Samagam in New Delhi, Mr Goyal said that this target will be achieved through a whole-of-government approach, and the government will constitute a committee to oversee this.
- He informed me that the number of GI tags issued by the department to date stands at 605. The Minister highlighted the efforts of the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give a thrust to the Intellectual Property Ecosystem (IPR) ecosystem.
- The number of authorized users for GI tags increased from 365 to 29 thousand and the number of patents granted increased from 6000 to one lakh, in the last 10 years.
- Speaking on the efforts of the government to strengthen the IPR ecosystem, the Minister mentioned the Anusandhan National Research Foundation Fund and One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. He also stressed the need for better branding of GI products. He mentioned the need for collaboration with FSSAI and BIS to ensure better quality standards. The event was organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
Govt Decides To Increase MSP By Rs 315 For Raw Jute
- Government has decided to increase the Minimum Support Price of raw Jute for marketing season 2025-26. Briefing media in New Delhi about the Cabinet decisions, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said, MSP of five thousand 650 rupees per quintal for raw jute will be provided which is 315 rupees more in comparison to the previous marketing season 2024-25.
- He said, this would help 40 lakh families, who are engaged in the production of raw jute.
- The Minister informed that the Union Cabinet reviewed the progress achieved under the National Health Mission. He added that the Union Cabinet has cleared the continuation of the mission for another two years as decided earlier. In 2021, the Union Cabinet extended the implementation of the National Health Mission for five years till 2026.
- The National Health Mission has driven substantial progress in multiple areas, including maternal and child health, disease elimination, and healthcare infrastructure in the last three years.
- National Health Mission has engaged over 12 lakh additional healthcare workers between the financial years 2021 and 2024. Around 220 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered nationwide under this mission.
- The Maternal Mortality Ratio has declined by 83 percent since 1990, which is higher than the global decline of 45 percent. Tuberculosis incidence has been reduced from 237 per 1 lakh population in 2015 to 195 in 2023, and the TB mortality rate decreased from 28 to 22 in the same period. India achieved 97.98 percent coverage in the measles and rubella vaccination campaign.
- Under this mission, several new initiatives including National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission were also undertaken.
Belgium’s AB InBev To Invest $250 Million In India’s
- Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan said that beverage company AB InBev has announced an investment of 250 million dollars in various parts of India which will be completed in two to three years.
- Mr Paswan held a meeting with the company on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos. He said it is another historic step in India’s food processing industry and will write a new chapter on job creation and economic progress. The Minister said it symbolises growing opportunities and the confidence of global companies in India.
- Mr Paswan said, the Prime Minister is very clear about the policies, which is why single window clearance and ease of doing business is being provided, which encourages investors to come and invest.
- The Minister also discussed value-addition opportunities in the food processing sector with the Chairman of CP Group Chris Soopakij Chearavanont. He also interacted with the Chief Operating Officer of Coca-Cola, Henrik Brown.
Yala Glacier In Nepal
- Yala Glacier, situated in Nepal’s Langtang National Park, has been a focal point for glaciological studies due to its significant retreat over recent decades.
- Recent analyses predict that this glacier may vanish by the 2040s, underscoring the profound impacts of climate change on the Himalayan cryosphere.
- Between 1974 and 2021, Yala Glacier retreated by 680 meters, with a 36% reduction in its area. Its elevation has declined from 5,170 meters to 5,750 meters in 2011.
- Yala Glacier is the only Himalayan glacier included in the Global Glacier Casualty List, highlighting its critical status. This list, launched in 2024, identifies glaciers worldwide that are critically endangered or have already disappeared. Glaciers are vital freshwater sources for millions.
- The Hindu Kush Himalaya region, dependent on glaciers, is warming twice as fast as the global average, threatening water security for approximately 240 million people. Rapid glacier melting leads to the formation of unstable glacial lakes. Their potential overflow poses catastrophic flood risks to downstream communities.
- The United Nations has designated 2025 as the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation, emphasizing the importance of glaciers and providing essential hydrological, meteorological, and climate services to those dependent on them.
- Additionally, starting in 2025, March 21 will be observed annually as the World Day for Glaciers. India has launched the National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem and established the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) to monitor glacier-related events and issue GLOF alerts.
