Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release first series of eleven volumes of Collected Works of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya in New Delhi.
  • The programme will be organised on the occasion of the 162nd birth anniversary of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya.
  • In Amrit Kaal, it has been the Prime Minister’s vision to bestow fitting recognition to freedom fighters who have contributed immensely to the service of the Nation.

  • The bilingual (English and Hindi) work in eleven volumes, spread across about four thousand pages, is a collection of the writings and speeches of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, collected from every nook and corner of the country.
  • These volumes comprise his unpublished letters, articles, and speeches, including memorandums, the editorial content of the Hindi weekly ‘Abhyudaya’ started by him in 1907, statements given before the Royal Commission, and a diary written by him.
  • The work of researching and compiling the documents written and spoken by Madan Mohan Malaviya was undertaken by the Mahamana Malaviya Mission, an institution devoted to propagating the ideals and values of Madan Mohan Malviya.

Ministry of Rural Development & with JioMart

  • The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) has taken a significant step by forging an alliance with JioMart, a Reliance Retail venture.
  • This partnership aims to extend the market reach of products created by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) associated with the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), thereby empowering rural artisans.

  • Facilitating SHGs’ integration as sellers on the JioMart e-commerce platform.
  • Providing guidance and support to DAY-NRLM-aligned SHGs for expanding their online businesses.
  • Supporting MoRD’s SARAS collection initiative to widen the consumer base for SHG products.
  • Joint participation in training programs and workshops to enhance SHG sellers’ proficiency in digital selling on JioMart.
  • This partnership highlights MoRD’s dedication to enhancing livelihood opportunities for SHGs.
  • JioMart, leveraging its expansive network and digital commerce platforms, aims to foster growth and enable the digitization of numerous SHGs.
  • The collaboration endeavors to revolutionize India’s digital retail landscape and contribute to the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
  • JioMart will aid SHGs in setting up and navigating their accounts on the platform. Furthermore, post-launch, JioMart commits to ongoing training and support for the continual growth of SHG businesses.
  • The partnership also opens doors for SHGs to partake in marketing promotions on the JioMart platform.

Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize

  • The renowned Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize has named poet-critic Sukrita Paul Kumar as its sixth recipient for her book, “Salt & Pepper: Selected Poems”.
  • This prestigious award recognizes outstanding literary work from around the globe, promoting world peace, literature, art, education, and human rights.
  • At the award ceremony, Kumar received a cash prize of USD 5,000, a Tagore statue, and a certificate acknowledging her significant contribution to literature.

  • In recognition of his exceptional contributions to social welfare, Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee was awarded the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for Social Achievement.
  • This further signifies the award’s dedication to highlighting both artistic and societal impacts.

  • Founded in 2018 by US-based publisher Peter Bundalo, the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize has established itself as a valuable platform for celebrating literary excellence and championing human rights and world peace.
  • The award’s commitment to both artistic and social impact makes it truly unique and impactful.
  • Last year, the prize was awarded to acclaimed journalist-author Raj Kamal Jha for his novel “The City and The Sea.” This legacy of recognizing distinguished literary voices continues with Sukrita Paul Kumar’s well-deserved win, and one can expect the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize to continue its important role in the years to come.

Anmol Kharb

  • In Badminton, Anmol Kharb has won the women’s singles title at the National Badminton Championships 2023 in Guwahati. The teenager lost the first game of the final to Tanvi Sharma but fought back to level the score.
  • The men’s singles title clash saw an upset as the unseeded Chirag Sen secured the national title after defeating fourth-seed Tharun M.

  • In the mixed doubles summit clash, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto defeated the sixth-seeded duo of Nitin Kumar-Navdha Manglam 21-13, 21-8 to claim their maiden national title.
  • Priya Devi Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra lifted the women’s doubles title with a win over Ritika Thaker-Simran Singh. The men’s doubles final was an edge-of-the-seat thriller where K Pruthvi Roy-Suraj Goala caused an upset by defeating Krishna Prasad Garaga-Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala.
