  • He stressed the need for resilience to be incorporated into both new infrastructure projects and post-disaster reconstruction efforts. In a world where the impact of disasters transcends borders, Prime Minister Modi urged the necessity for collective resilience among nations.

National Colloquium On Grassroots Government

  • Marking In honor of National Panchayati Raj Day, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj is hosting a one-day National Colloquium on Grassroots Governance in New Delhi.
  • Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, celebrated the formalization of Panchayat elections as the foremost accomplishment of the 73rd Amendment.

  • António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has appointed Gita Sabharwal from India as the new UN Resident Coordinator in Indonesia.
  • Bringing nearly three decades of experience in development, Gita Sabharwal enters her new role with a wealth of expertise in supporting climate transition, sustainable peace, governance, and social policy. She is adept at leveraging digital technology and data to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • With the approval of the host government, Sabharwal assumes her position as the UN Resident Coordinator in Indonesia following her previous roles as the UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand and as the Peacebuilding and Development Adviser for the United Nations in Sri Lanka.
  • Prior to joining the UN, she served as Deputy Country Representative for The Asia Foundation in the Maldives and Sri Lanka, and held positions as Poverty and Policy Adviser for the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development in India and Vietnam.
  • The UN Resident Coordinator holds the highest-ranking position within the UN Development System at the country level. They oversee UN country teams and coordinate support for countries in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

  • As the designated representative of the UN Secretary-General, the Resident Coordinator’s responsibilities include representing the United Nations at the highest state levels and fostering engagement with government, civil society, bilateral and multilateral partners, academia, and the private sector.

Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know

  • “SUNFLOWERS WERE FIRST ONES TO KNOW”, a film by Chidanand Naik, a student of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), has been selected in the ‘La Cinef” Competitive section of 77th Cannes Film Festival, France.
  • The section is an official section of the festival aimed at encouraging new talents and recognises films from film schools across the world.

  • The film is among 18 shorts (14 live-action and 4 animated films) selected from a total of 2,263 films submitted by film schools all over the world. This is the only Indian film selected in ‘La Cinef’ section of Cannes.
  • The Jury will hand over La Cinef prizes at a ceremony preceding the screening of the awarded films on 23rd May in the Buñuel Theatre.
  • “SUNFLOWERS WERE FIRST ONES TO KNOW” is a story of an elderly woman who steals the village’s rooster, which throws the community into disarray.
  • To bring the rooster back, a prophecy is invoked, sending the old lady’s family into exile. This is the first time a film by a student from 1-year Television course has been selected at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
