World Development Information Day

  • The World Development Information Day is celebrated by the United Nations (UN).
  • Established in 1972, this day aims to draw the attention of the world to development problems and the need to strengthen international cooperation to solve them.

  • The UN hopes that effective dissemination of information and the mobilization of public opinion, particularly among young people, would lead to greater awareness of the problems of development, thus, promoting efforts in the sphere of international cooperation for development.
  • This day coincides with the United Nations Day, celebrated to commemorate the day UN began operating in 1945.

India’s First Liquid Nano DAP Fertiliser Plant

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate India’s first liquid nano di-ammonia phosphate (DAP) plant established by IFFCO at Kalol in Gandhinagar.
  • Union Chemical and Fertilizer Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will also be present on the occasion.
  • IFFCO chairman Dilip Sanghani said this plant will hugely benefit the farmers and also help reduce the import of DAP in the country.
  • Minister who is on a  visit to Gujarat will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various development works in the Sanand assembly area in Ahmedabad.
  • He laid the foundation stone of the sports complex SD Arts and BR Commerce College, in his native place Mansa near Gandhinagar. The minister will also offer prayers and perform aarti at the Bahuchar Mataji temple in Mansa.

National Maritime Heritage Complex At Lothal

  • The first phase of the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal near Ahmedabad will be inaugurated in January 2024. 
  • Mr. Mandaviya said that the ambitious Complex will be built at the heritage site Lothal at the cost of 4500 crore rupees to revive India’s rich maritime heritage.
  • He added that the world’s tallest 77-meter lighthouse museum will also be established in the complex.

  •  Apart from the Lothal Mini Recreation, four theme parks such as ‘Memorial Theme Park’, ‘Maritime and Navy Theme Park’, ‘Climate Theme Park’ and Adventure and Amusement Theme Park are also being built in this complex to revive the Harappan architecture and lifestyle in the country’s ancient port.
  • Lothal was one of the most significant locations during the Indus Valley Era. It was one of the most important and thriving trade centres in ancient times. The world’s oldest known artificial dock, which was connected to an old course of the Sabarmati River was found during an excavation in Lothal.

Cyclone Hamoon

  • Cyclonic storm ‘Hamoon’ has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
  • A special bulletin of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said that Chattogram and Payra ports have been advised to hoist danger Signal 7 while Cox’s bazar and Mongla ports have been asked to hoist danger Signal 6 and 5.

  • The severe cyclonic storm is likely to hit Bangladesh coast and intensify further. Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of the cyclone centre is about 90 kph, rising to 110 kph in gusts/squalls.
  • The sea will remain high near the severe cyclone centre. Under the peripheral effect of the severe cyclone, heavy to very heavy rainfall with gusty or squally wind may continue over north Bay and coastal areas of Bangladesh.
  • All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
  • The Cyclonic storm has been named ‘Hamoon’ by Iran. The word ‘Hamoon’ is a Persian word that refers to inland desert lakes or marshlands. They are formed as natural seasonal reservoirs in areas adjoining the Helmand basin.

Unnati Hooda – Abu Dhabi Masters 2023

  • In a battle of future Badminton stars from India, Unnati Hooda beat Samiya Imad Farooqui to capture the women’s singles title at the Abu Dhabi Masters 2023.
  • 16-year-old Unnati Hooda defeated the 20-year-old Samiya Imad Farooqui 21-16, 22-20.
  • This is her second BWF Super 100 World Tour title. She became the youngest Indian to clinch a BWF title last year at 14 years of age.

National Symposium On Cooperative Exports

  • Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah addressed the ‘National Symposium on Cooperative Exports’ organized by National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL) in New Delhi & also released the logo, website and brochure of NCEL and distributed membership certificates to NCEL members.
  • At least 50% of export profits will go to farmers through National Cooperative Export Limited.
  • Modi government is working towards increasing exports as well as creating a smooth system to deliver its benefits to the farmers.

  • NCEL is launched in the cooperative sector with 6 objectives of increasing exports, prospering the farmer, changing the crop pattern, providing global market for organic products, gaining a place for India in the global market for biofuel and strengthening the cooperative sector.
  • In the coming days, NECL will develop into a complete export ecosystem covering all aspects like procurement, storage, processing, marketing, branding, labeling, packaging, certification and R&D.
  • National Cooperative Export Limited will prove to be a very big and successful cooperative venture.

Asian Para Games

  • India has clinched 39 medals– 10 gold, 12 silver and 17 bronze at the ongoing Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China.
  • The latest Indian to grab a win was Sharath Makanahalli Shankarappa. He clinched gold in Men’s 5000m-T13 event by clocking in 20 minutes and 18.90 seconds. He beat Nabeel Khaled Ahmad of Jordan by just 0.1 second.

  • Rubina Francis clinched bronze in Women’s 10M Pistol to continue India’s streak in shooting. Parmod Bijarnia claimed silver and Rakesh Bhaira grabbed bronze in the Men’s 1500m T46 event. Ankur Dhama bagged gold in the men’s 5000m-T11 event.
