Veer Baal Diwas
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in Veer Baal Diwas, a nationwide celebration honouring children as the foundation of India’s future tomorrow at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
- In 2022, Mr Modi announced that 26th December will be marked as Veer Baal Diwas to pay tribute to the courage of the Sahibzades, the sons of Guru Gobind Singh and their quest for justice.
- Day will focus on nurturing young minds, fostering creativity, and inspiring contributions to the vision of Viksit Bharat. On the occasion, the Prime Minister will launch Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan. It aims to improve nutritional outcomes and well-being by strengthening the implementation of nutrition-related services and by ensuring active community participation.
- Around three thousand 500 children, along with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar awardees and dignitaries, will attend the event.
- A series of online competitions, including interactive quizzes, will be organized through the MyGov and MyBharat Portals. Interesting activities like storytelling, creative writing, and poster-making among others will be undertaken in schools, Child Care Institutions and Anganwadi centres.
- President Droupadi Murmu will confer the ‘Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar’ on 17 children for exceptional achievements in seven categories in New Delhi tomorrow. Children hail from 14 states and UTs. The government confers the Bal Puraskar to children for achievements in art and culture, bravery, innovation, science and technology, social service, sports, and the environment. Each awardee will receive a medal, certificate, and citation booklet.
Ken- Betwa River Linking Project
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the country’s first ambitious and multipurpose Ken-Betwa National River Linking Project in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, on the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
- The Prime Minister also inaugurated the country’s first Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project and performed Bhoomi Pujan of 1,153 Atal Gram Sushasan Bhawans.
- Mr. Modi also released a stamp and coin in memory of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The cost of the Ken-Betwa National River Linking Project is Rs 44 thousand 605 crores. 90 percent of the project expenditure will be borne by the Central Government and 10 percent by the respective State Governments.
- This project will provide irrigation facilities in more than 8 lakh hectares of area. More than 7 lakh farmer families of 2 thousand villages in 10 districts of Madhya Pradesh will also benefit. The Ken-Betwa Link National Project will also provide drinking water facilities to the 44 lakh population of 10 districts of Madhya Pradesh.
- This project will generate 103 MW of hydropower and 27 MW of solar power. This project will also provide irrigation facilities on more than 2.51 lakh hectares and drinking water facilities to a 21 lakh population of Uttar Pradesh. Most importantly, it will improve the condition of the water level in the drought-prone Bundelkhand region, promote industrialisation, increase investment and tourism and provide employment opportunities.
Hanukkah Greetings
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended Hanukkah greetings to his Israel counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, and all the people across the world celebrating the festival.
- In a social media post, Mr Modi expressed hope that the radiance of Hanukkah will illuminate everybody’s lives with hope, peace and strength.
- Hanukkah (Chanukah) is the Jewish eight-day, wintertime “festival of lights,” celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods.
- The festival reminds Jews of a time over 2,000 years ago, when the Jews won a battle against the Greeks to practise their religion freely.
SPADEX Mission On Dec 30
- ISRO is gearing up to end the year on a high note with the launch of SPADEX Mission- the launch of two small satellites to demonstrate docking in space. The launch is scheduled at 21.58 hours on December 30 from the first launch pad at Sriharikota.
- India’s workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C60 will launch the two 220 kg satellites in a 470 km circular orbit. The launch vehicle will providing a small relative velocity between the two.
- The two satellites will later separate to build-up a distance of around 10 to 20 km between themselves.
- According to ISRO, Spadex mission is a cost-effective technology demonstrator mission for the demonstration of in-space docking using two small spacecraft launched by PSLV. This technology is essential for India’s space ambitions such as Indian on Moon, sample return from the Moon, the building and operation of Bharatiya Antariksh Station, etc. Through this mission, India is marching towards becoming the fourth country in the world to have space docking technology.
- The Spadex mission consists of two satellites – SDX01 or Chaser and SDX02 or Target with both designed to align in the same orbit, reduce distance between each other, to join and transfer electrical power between them, and then separate finally. Upon separation, payloads on board both the satellites will continue to function for two years.
National Consumer Day 2024
- National Consumer Day is being celebrated. Every year, it is celebrated on the 24th of December to highlight the significance of consumer movement in the country. It was on this day that the Consumer Protection Act, of 1986, received presidential assent and was enacted.
- The theme for this year is Virtual Hearings and Digital Access to Consumer Justice.
- On the occasion of National Consumer Day, Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi virtually launched various initiatives in New Delhi. The initiatives include the Jago Grahak Jago app, the Jagriti app, and the Jagriti Dashboard, which aim at identifying dark patterns on e-commerce platforms and empowering consumers.
- He also launched the e-Mapp portal to streamline licensing, verification, and registration processes for businesses, reduce compliance burdens, and promote transparency. The Consumer Affairs Department launched its revamped National Consumer Helpline Portal, incorporating advanced features.
- It offers enhanced functionality, improved navigation, and faster grievance resolution. A safety pledge was also signed voluntarily by 13 major e-commerce platforms to ensure the safety of goods sold online and respect consumer rights. Two state-of-the-art facilities of the National Test House in Guwahati and Mumbai were also inaugurated during the event.
Swarnim Bharat: Virasat Aur Vikas
- Ministry of Defence has said that ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’ will be the theme of tableaux for Republic Day (RDC)-2025. It added that 15 states and Union Territories have been selected to showcase their tableaux on the Kartavya Path during the parade.
- These states include Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Dadar Nagar Haveli and Daman, and Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka and among others.
- In addition, 11 Ministries and the Department of Union government have also been selected for RDC-2025. The Ministery said the selected tableaux would showcase India’s diverse strengths and its constantly evolving cultural inclusiveness marching into a glorious future, showcasing ‘Swarnim Bharat – Virasat aur Vikas’ to the world audience.
Former SC Judge V. Ramasubramanian
- Retired Supreme Court judge V. Ramasubramanian has been appointed as the new chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
- President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Justice Ramasubramanian. Priyank Kanoongo and Dr Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi (Retd.) have also been appointed as members of the commission.
- Justice Ramasubramanian was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court on 23rd September 2019 and retired on 29th June 2023. This appointment comes months after former Supreme Court Justice (retd) Arun Kumar Mishra concluded his tenure as NHRC chairperson on 1st June this year. After Mishra’s retirement, Vijaya Bharathi Sayani became the acting chairperson of the human rights panel.

- External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar Will Be On A Six-day Visit To The United States Beginning 24 December. During The Visit, He Will Meet Counterparts To Discuss Key Bilateral, Regional And Global Issues. Dr. Jaishankar Will Also Chair A Conference Of The Consul Generals Of India In The USA.
Asian Junior Weightlifting Championship In Doha
- In weightlifting, Martina Devi clinched a silver medal in the women’s junior +87kg category at the Asian Junior Championships in Doha today. The 18-year-old from Manipur lifted a total of 225 kg to finish second. She also won a silver medal for her clean-and-jerk effort and a bronze for her snatch. Medals are awarded separately for snatch, clean and jerk, and total lift in continental, World Cups, and World Championships.
Junior World Pencak Silat Championship
- Nusrath Fatima from Sankoo, Kargil, representing India, clinched a silver medal at the 5th Junior World Pencak Silat Championship, held in Abu Dhabi. Competing in the 58 kg Junior category, her outstanding performance underscores India’s rising stature in global combat sports.
- Nusrath’s achievement not only highlights her personal dedication and talent but also reflects the untapped potential in India’s far-flung regions like Ladakh. “Nusrath’s success demonstrates the growing strength of India’s youth in traditional martial arts like Pencak Silat, which is gaining global recognition.”
- Although the word silat is widely known throughout much of Southeast Asia, the term pencak silat is used mainly in Indonesia. “Pencak silat” was chosen in 1948 as a unifying term for the Indonesian fighting styles. It was a compound of the two most commonly used words for martial arts in Indonesia.
