Sudarshan Setu

  • Addressing a gathering after dedicating to the nation country’s longest, about 2.32 km. long, signature stayed bridge ‘Sudarshan Setu’ connecting Okha mainland and Beyt Dwatka island at Dwarka in Gujarat, the Prime Minister said that his decades-old dream of going to the deep waters of the ocean to see the ancient Dwarika has come true.

  • The country is moving forward to become the fifth economic power of the world. He said that on one hand divine pilgrimage places are becoming modern and on the other hand, modern mega projects are creating a new picture of new India.
  • The PM also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth more than  4150  crore.
  • Sudarshan Setu has a unique design, with footpaths decorated with verses from Srimad Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna on either side.
  • It also has solar panels installed on the upper parts of the footpath, which generate one megawatt of electricity.
  • The bridge will ease transportation and significantly reduce the time spent by devotees traveling between Dwarka and Bet-Dwarka. Before the construction of the bridge, pilgrims had to rely on boat transport to reach Bet Dwarka. This iconic bridge will also serve as the main tourist attraction of  Devbhumi Dwarka.

  • The PM also inaugurated pipeline project at Vadinar and three Rail Electrification projects in the state.
  • The PM  laid foundation stone of various projects including widening of Dhoraji-Jamkandorna-Kalavad section of NH-927 and Regional Science Center at Jamnagar.
  • The Prime Minister dedicated the Rajkot-Okha, Rajkot-Jetalsar-Somnath and Jetalsar-Vansjalia rail electrification projects to the country.

  • Later, PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth more than 48,100 crore at Race Course ground in Rajkot this evening. The PM will dedicate five new AIIMS to the country. During the event, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone and dedicate to the nation more than 200 Health Care Infrastructure Projects worth more than 11,500 crore rupees across 23 States and Union territories.

Ladakh’s Four Point Demands

  • Leaders from Ladakh have expressed satisfaction over their meeting discussing Ladakh’s four-point demands with the officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs in Delhi yesterday.
  • Thupstan Chhewang, Chairman of Apex Body Leh and Sajad Hussain, a Member of the committee from Kargil stated in a press briefing that the two-hour meeting concluded positively, with MHA.

  • They highlighted that MHA officials extensively discussed Ladakh’s demands, including the declaration of Sixth Scheduled status, statehood, Public Service Commission for Ladakh, and related issues such as separate cadre creation and age relaxation in recruitment and promotions.
  • To address Ladakh’s demands, the Centre had formed high-powered committee chaired by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nitinayand Rai and later a nine-member subcommittee to assess the demands submitted by the high-powered committee.

World’s Largest Grain Storage

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that ‘World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan in Cooperative Sector’ launched will result in thousands of warehouses and godowns in every corner of the country. 
  • Launching multiple key initiatives for the Cooperative sector at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, Mr Modi said the world’s largest storage plan of 700 lakh metric tons will be completed in the next five years at a cost of 1.25 lakh crore rupees.

  • He said that it would enable farmers to store their produce and sell it at the right time according to their own needs while also helping to avail loans from banks.
  • The Prime Minister also laid foundation stone for additional 500 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) across the country for construction of godowns and other agri infrastructure and a project for computerization in 18 thousand PACS across the country.
  • He underlined that cooperatives are an ancient concept for India. He said that through the new Cooperation Ministry, the government aims to bring together the fragmented powers of the agricultural sector of India.
  • The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s goal of establishing two lakh cooperative societies in the coming years.

  • Giving the example of Farmers Producers Organisation, the Prime Minister noted the growing entrepreneurship among the small farmers in villages.
  • He said beacoause of a separate Ministry, eight thousand FPOs out of a target of 10 thousand FPOs are already functional in the country. More than 25 thousand cooperative units are functional in the fishery sector.
  • Mr Modi highlighted that a large number of women are involved in agriculture and dairy cooperatives and modernization of agriculture systems is a must for Viksit Bharat.
  • The Prime Minister cited the success stories of Amul and Lijjat Papad as the power of cooperatives and also highlighted the central role of women in these enterprises.

Moncef Marzouki

  • A Tunisian court sentenced former President Moncef Marzouki to eight years in prison after he was found guilty in absentia of seeking to provoke disorder. Acording to media reports, Mr Marzouki lives in France and was not present at the hearing.
  • He was country’s first democratically elected head of state after the country’s 2011 Arab Spring revolution.

  • The verdict was based on statements by Marzouki that included incitement in a speech he gave in Paris.
  • Mr Marzouki was previously sentenced to four years in absentia in 2021 after he called for France to end its support for President Kais Saied.
  • Elected democratically in 2019 with a five-year mandate, Mr Saied launched a power grab in July 2021, dismissing the prime minister and suspending the parliament. He later pushed through sweeping changes to concentrate power in his office.

India’s Largest Drone Pilot Training Organisation

  • In a monumental stride towards promoting technological advancement and innovation, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, in collaboration with EduRade, has inaugurated India’s largest Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO).
  • Spanning across 18 acres, this initiative boasts the capability to simultaneously fly 9 medium-class drones, positioning itself as a frontrunner in drone technology training.

  • The launch of IIT Guwahati’s RPTO symbolizes the institute’s unwavering commitment to revolutionizing drone training in India.
  • With a focus on equipping individuals with essential expertise, the RPTO will kickstart with a DGCA-Certified Medium Class Drone Pilot Training Course.
  • This initiative aligns seamlessly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to establish India as a global drone hub by 2030, as highlighted in the recently launched ‘Namo Drone Didi’ initiative.

  • Catering to the aspirations of youth in North East and other regions of India, the RPTO will offer comprehensive training programs.
  • Moreover, it will extend its reach to women from self-help groups engaged in agriculture, under the Namo Drone Didi Yojna.
  • Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), opening doors to lucrative career opportunities as Certified Drone Pilots.
  • In a pioneering move, IIT Guwahati is hosting a groundbreaking drone training initiative tailored for diverse defence personnel.
  • This three-month training program, specifically designed for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and other officers, aims to modernize the operations of the armed forces.
  • Participants will receive comprehensive training on various aspects of drone technologies, empowering them for post-retirement career options or entrepreneurial pursuits.

Govt Unveils 4 Transformative Portals

  • In a move to redefine India’s media landscape, Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur launched four portals aimed at fostering a more conducive business environment, enhancing transparency in government communication, and providing easy access to authentic government videos.

  • Minister Thakur highlighted the government’s achievements in improving the ease of doing business, acknowledged by international indices such as the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index and the Logistic Performance Index.
  • The four portals launched signify a leap towards enhancing efficiency and transparency in government operations.
  • Press Sewa Portal: Developed under the Press and Registration of Periodicals Act, 2023 (PRP Act, 2023), this portal automates the process for newspaper registration and related procedures. Its features include online application filing, real-time tracking, and a module for District Magistrates to manage applications.
  • Transparent Empanelment Media Planning and eBilling System: Introduced for the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), this system streamlines media planning processes and offers an ERP solution for the media industry. Features include automated empanelment, media planning, billing, and a mobile app for partners.

  • NaViGate Bharat Portal: Developed by the New Media Wing of the Ministry, this portal serves as a unified bilingual platform hosting videos on the government’s development and citizen welfare measures. It offers navigation, categorization, video playback, and search functionality.
