Ayushman Vay Vandana Cards
- Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, along with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will launch the Ayushman Vay Vandana Cards for Delhiites in New Delhi.
- The scheme provides 5 lakh rupees free health cover to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of their socio-economic status. The senior citizens aged 70 years and above belonging to families already covered under AB PM-JAY get an additional top-up cover of up to 5 lakh rupees per year for themselves.
- On October 29, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the expansion of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) to include all senior citizens aged 70 years and above. Under the expansion, all senior citizens aged 70 years and above are receiving the “Ayushman Vay Vandana Card”, which helps them avail of healthcare benefits
Explosion At Iranian Port
- The death toll from a massive explosion at a port near the southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas has reached 40. The Saturday explosion and the subsequent fire left more than 1,000 people wounded, of whom 197 were hospitalised.
- The cause of the incident has not been determined yet. The Iranian government’s spokeswoman, Fatemeh Mohajerani, in a post on social media, said the administration had declared a day of national mourning.
- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited the port yesterday to assess the circumstances of the blast and visited some of the injured. Footage from closed-circuit cameras at the scene showed a limited fire starting near several containers in an area of the port, which then expanded and caused the significant explosion nearly 90 seconds later. Despite the incident, the port’s wharfs have resumed operations and cargo handling.
Uganda Declares End To Ebola Sudan Virus Outbreak
- Uganda has declared an end to the Ebola Sudan Virus Disease (SVD) outbreak after completing a 42-day mandatory countdown without any new confirmed cases reported.
- The declaration came in less than three months after the virus was detected in the capital, Kampala. Ugandan Minister of Health Ruth Aceng made the announcement in the eastern city of Mbale, one of the areas affected by Ebola.
- The World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines require that for a country to be declared Ebola-free, it must spend 42 days (two 21-day incubation cycles of the virus) without any new cases reported.
- Uganda declared the SVD outbreak on 30th January this year after a 32-year-old nurse died of the disease in Kampala. The WHO said that although the outbreak in Uganda is over, the Ministry of Health, with continued support from the global health body and partners, will continue investing in surveillance, survivor care and preparedness to ensure Uganda remains safe. There are no approved treatments or vaccines for the Sudan strain of Ebola, as vaccines are still under clinical trial.
Hubballi Airport
- Hubballi Airport in Karnataka has been awarded the Platinum Recognition—the highest honour—under the Green Airports Recognition 2025 by Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific and Middle East. This achievement highlights the airport’s excellence in promoting sustainable energy practices among airports handling fewer than six million passengers annually.
- Hubballi Airport, operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), has made a major leap in sustainability by winning the Platinum Honour at the ACI Green Airports Recognition 2025. The award, presented during the ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Regional Assembly held in New Delhi, recognizes the airport’s outstanding initiatives in the “Sustainable Energy at Airports” category.
- AAI’s innovative 8 MW solar power plant at Hubballi, commissioned in 2022, plays a pivotal role in reducing carbon emissions and promoting green energy across multiple airports in Karnataka, making it a landmark achievement in India’s journey towards net-zero emissions.

Shenzhou-20
- On April 24, 2025, China will launch its Shenzhou-20 mission, carrying three astronauts to the Tiangong space station. This mission coincides with China’s 10th Space Day, celebrating its achievements in space exploration. The crew will conduct various scientific experiments and replace the Shenzhou-19 crew, who will return to Earth shortly.
- The Shenzhou-20 mission aims to complete the in-orbit rotation of the crew. The astronauts will conduct space science experiments, install a space debris protection device, and perform extravehicular activities. They will also carry life science research objects, including zebrafish, planarians, and streptomyces, to study regeneration and other biological processes in space.
- April 24 is celebrated as Space Day in China, commemorating the launch of its first satellite, Dongfanghong-1, in 1970. This day marks China’s commitment to advancing its space programme and encouraging public interest in space exploration.
- Shenzhou-20 is the 35th mission in China’s manned space programme. The Tiangong space station is expected to become the only operational space station in orbit once the International Space Station retires. China is actively developing its space capabilities, having been excluded from the ISS due to military concerns.
- China’s space activities have raised international concerns, particularly regarding its military applications. The country has begun collaborations with Pakistan, with astronauts from Hong Kong and Macau also set to participate in future missions. These partnerships aim to enhance scientific research and promote international cooperation in space.
Asian Yogasana Sport Championship
- India delivered a dominant performance at the Asian Yogasana Sport Championship, securing a record 83 gold medals to top the medal tally at the event in Delhi yesterday. The hosts also won three silver and one bronze medal to end with 87 medals, finishing well ahead of Japan, which claimed three gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
- Mongolia, Oman and Nepal rounded off the top five standings. Countries such as Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Kazakhstan and Bhutan also showcased strong performances, highlighting the growing footprint of yogasana as a competitive sport across Asia.
- The championship saw participation from over 21 countries, including Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan. The championship concluded with a grand closing ceremony attended by Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, along with senior officials from the Asian and World Yogasana federations.
