SpaceX Successfully Launches Starship
- SpaceX has successfully launched its Starship Super Heavy rocket on its ninth test flight from its facility near Boca Chica Beach in South Texas, early this morning.
- The ninth uncrewed test launch flew farther than the last two attempts that ended in explosive failure. The much-anticipated liftoff took place at 5:00 am IST. It marks a critical milestone in SpaceX’s mission to develop a fully reusable heavy-lift rocket system with the capacity to carry humans to the Moon and Mars.
- The booster performed a controlled splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico, foregoing the ambitious “catch” attempt by the launch tower’s robotic arms. The flight also included several in-flight experiments crucial for validating the system’s reusability and robustness.

One Big Beautiful Bill Act Of 2025
- One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 (OBBBA) has recently passed in the US House of Representatives. This legislation aims to encapsulate President Donald Trump’s policy agenda. The focus now shifts to the US Senate for further deliberation. The bill is over a thousand pages long and contains key elements that could impact the US economy and the Republican Party’s electoral prospects.
- The OBBB consists of five main components. First, it extends and makes permanent the income tax and estate tax cuts initiated in 2017. Second, it introduces new tax reductions on overtime, tips, and social security incomes. The White House claims that Americans earning between $30,000 and $80,000 will see a 15% tax cut next year. Third, the bill allocates increased funding for border security and military improvements.
- Fourth, it aims to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending. Finally, it proposes raising the debt ceiling, allowing the government to borrow more to meet its financial obligations.
- Economists have raised concerns about the fiscal implications of the OBBB. The bill’s tax cuts and increased spending could worsen the US federal budget. The federal deficit was already high at 6.4% of GDP in 2024, translating to approximately $1.9 trillion.
- The OBBB may exacerbate this issue, pushing the debt-to-GDP ratio towards an unsustainable level, potentially reaching 200% in the next decade. This trend has led to a decline in the US government’s credit ratings and rising bond yields, increasing borrowing costs for the government and citizens alike.
India’s 1st Gene Edited Sheep
- A team of experts led by Dr Riyaz Ahmed Shah, Professor of Animal Biotechnology at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Kashmir, has achieved a significant breakthrough by creating India’s first gene-edited sheep.
- Dr Riyaz was also the head of the team that created India’s first cloned Pashmina goat, Noori, in 2012. Noori passed away in 2023.
- Gene-Editing : DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is a molecule that carries an organism’s genetic information, which is necessary for its development and functioning.
- It is mainly located in the nucleus of the cells of the organism.
- The genetic information is transmitted from one generation to another by the parents to their offspring.
- Gene -editing refers to the changes made in the DNA of an organism deliberately by the scientist to obtain desired change in the animal.
- In gene editing, scientists cut the DNA of the organism at a specific spot where they want to change or modify it. The scientist then removes, adds, or replaces the DNA to achieve the desired change in the organism, such as changing its colour, strengthening a muscle, or reducing a specific disease risk.
- Scientists use various techniques for gene editing. The CRISPR technique, invented in 2009, is increasingly being used worldwide.
- About the Gene-edited Sheep : Dr Shah and his team edited the gene of a female sheep using the CRISPR-Cas9 technique for gene editing.
- No foreign gene was inserted into the body of the sheep.
- The aim of the project was to get a naturally born sheep with enhanced muscle growth as compared to a normal sheep.
- The team targeted the myostatin gene, which regulates muscle growth in the sheep..
- The female sheep gave birth to a gene-edited female lamb four months ago.
- Dr Shah and his team are monitoring the sheep to see whether the desired muscle growth in the newly born gene-edited sheep is taking place or not.
- The team is expected to announce the name of the gene-edited sheep shortly.

- In the second phase, four more cheetahs will be brought to India in subsequent months. The NTCA, under the Union Ministry of Forests, Environment, and Climate Change, is the implementing agency of Project Cheetah.
- The cheetah will be released in the Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh. So far, the cheetahs brought from Namibia and South Africa have been relocated to the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh.
- The state government has developed 8,900 hectares of area in the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary for Botswana cheetahs. The Gandhi Sagar sanctuary is home to an abundance of spotted deer, Sambar, and other wildlife species. It will provide sufficient food for the cheetahs.

Rail Electrification
- Gujarat has marked a significant achievement in India’s green transportation mission by becoming the 24th State/Union Territory to attain 100% railway electrification.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement during the inauguration of the Dahod Electric Locomotive Factory, a major industrial and eco-conscious initiative. This milestone is a testament to India’s ongoing efforts to modernize its rail network and transition to a sustainable, energy-efficient transportation infrastructure.
