SARAS Ajeevika Mela

  • Minister of State for Rural Development, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, inaugurated the SARAS Ajeevika Mela showcasing the best of crafts by rural Self Help Group (SHG) Women at Gurugram.
  • This is the second edition of Saras Ajeevika Mela. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that it is the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to empower at least two crores Lakhpati didis of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Rural Livelihoods Mission.

  • Workshops will be organized for women of self-help groups to develop marketing skills.
  • The SARAS Mela, organised by the Ministry of Rural Development, National Institute of Rural Development, and Panchayati Raj, is an initiative to support livelihood enhancement initiatives.

International Travel Exhibitions Asia

  • Ministry of Tourism, Government of India along with various stakeholders including tour operators and state tourism departments participated in one of the important International Travel Exhibitions held at Singapore with an objective to promote inbound tourism to India globally including the Asia Pacific region.
  • The exhibition – ITB Asia started on  25th October 2023 and is on till 27th October. Ministry of Tourism is leading the participation of the Indian industry at the exhibition, which draws the travel trade business and stakeholders from across the globe and particularly from the Aisa Pacific region, to showcase varied tourism products and series of transformative experiences for travellers to India under the theme ‘Incredible India! Visit India Year 2023’.
  • The Incredible India pavilion was inaugurated by H.E. Dr Shilpak Ambule, the High Commissioner of India to Singapore.
  • Ministry of Tourism at the exhibition, is to garner attention of   both the media and the industry towards India as a lucrative destination with various thematic products of adventure, wellness, Himalayas, eco tourism, sustainable tourism and exotic wildlife.
  • This year has been declared as the Visit India Year 2023 to focus on the positioning of India as a preferred destination at the targeted potential international markets.
  • The focus of Ministry of Tourism is also on promotion of sustainable tourism and mainstreaming sustainability into the tourism sector.

Vajra mushti kalaga

  • Vajra mushti kalaga, a martial art form, has gone extinct and takes place only during Dasara It is a unique Indian martial art that incorporates various techniques of hand-to-hand combat like grappling, wrestling, and striking.
  • Vajra Mushti, which literally means Thunderbolt Fist, is characterised by the utilization of a knuckleduster, a small metal weapon.

  • The knuckleduster, also known as Vajra Mushti, is usually made of animal horns and worn on the knuckles of the fighter.
  • The main objective of this Indian martial art form is to neutralise the opponent and counter his weapon.
  • It is a form of wrestling different from conventional grappling and entails two jettys taking a swipe at each other’s heads with a knuckleduster. Whoever draws the blood from the opponent’s head first is declared the winner.
  • This form of wrestling was popular during the period of the Vijayanagar rulers, who reigned between the 14th and the 17th centuries.
  • The fight is real, and the jetty’s make all efforts to draw blood from the opponent’s head, and a referee intervenes upon noticing the first drop.
  • Mediaeval travellers from Portugal noticed this form of wrestling during the Navaratri celebrations in Vijayanagar empire and have left detailed accounts of it.

37th National Games

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 37th National Games at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa.
  • Speaking on the occasion, the Prime minister said, India is advancing in various domains and setting unprecedented benchmarks.
  • Mr Modi said that from Khelo India to TOPS ( Target Olympic Podium Scheme), the government has created a new ecosystem to support players in the country.
  • He added that Khelo India has been successful as more than 125 players have done a good job in Asian Games.
  • The development of the Sports Sector in any country is directly related to the progress of the economy of that country.
  • Currently, the sports budget is three times of 9 years ago’s government.  He expressed confidence that India is ready for conducting 2036 Olympics in India.
  • He said that National Games is reflection of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. The Prime Minister also appreciated preparation for National Games by Goa government.

Three Basins Summit

  • The summit of the world’s three major forest basins kicked off in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of the Congo.
  • This three-day summit convenes for the first time and unites the world’s three major tropical forest basins: the Amazon, Congo, and Borneo-Mekong Forest Basins.
  • The first Summit of the Three Tropical Forest Basins was held in Brazzaville in 2011 and resulted in the Declaration of the Summit of the Three Tropical Forest Basins, which recognised the need to establish a platform to promote cooperation among the countries of the three basins.

  • The Amazon basin in South America, the Congo basin in Central Africa, and the Borneo-Mekong basin in Southeast Asia collectively constitute 80 percent of the world’s rainforests and contain approximately two-thirds of its biodiversity.
  • The purpose of the Summit is to implement, within the framework of the United Nations Decade for Ecosystem Restoration, the first global coalition to restore 350 million hectares of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.

  • The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, running from 2021 until 2030 urges global action to safeguard and restore ecosystems. These basins are seeing extensive forest loss and are moving towards a systemic ecosystem breakdown that affects global climate stability, biodiversity and the livelihoods of millions of indigenous peoples and local communities.
