International Animation Day 2025

Every year on October 28, countries around the world celebrate International Animation Day (IAD) to honour the art, creativity, and cultural significance of animation. The event, observed in more than 50 countries, is organized by ASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d’Animation) and commemorates Émile Reynaud’s 1892 public screening using his Théâtre Optique in Paris — regarded as the birth of projected animation.

ASIFA established International Animation Day in 2002 to highlight animation as a powerful tool for storytelling and artistic expression. The global celebrations include film screenings, creative workshops, and conferences led by animation schools, studios, and ASIFA chapters to inspire upcoming animators and promote cultural exchange through animation.

Japan Introduces the World’s First Yen-Pegged Stablecoin – JPYC

In a landmark development for global digital finance, Japan has launched the world’s first yen-pegged stablecoin, known as JPYC, on October 27, 2025. This blockchain-based currency is designed to maintain a 1:1 parity with the Japanese yen, symbolizing Japan’s commitment to digital transformation in its financial ecosystem.

Backed by domestic savings and Japanese government securities, JPYC combines stability with innovation. Its issuer, JPYC Inc., plans to release up to 10 trillion yen (≈$66 billion) worth of tokens over the next three years to promote low-cost, secure, and fast digital payments—particularly beneficial for startups and international trade.

The launch challenges the dominance of U.S. dollar-backed stablecoins, which currently make up 99% of the global market, and positions Japan as a key player in the evolving crypto-fintech landscape. This digital milestone follows the introduction of new yen banknotes in 2024, reflecting Japan’s dual focus on modern and traditional financial systems.

Cyclone Montha Forms Over the Bay of Bengal

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts as Cyclone Montha intensifies over the southeast Bay of Bengal. Forecasts indicate that the system will develop into a Severe Cyclonic Storm (SCS) by October 28, 2025, potentially affecting Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Telangana, Kerala, and Chhattisgarh with heavy rainfall and strong winds.

The cyclone’s name, “Montha,” was suggested by Thailand under the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and ESCAP naming panel for the North Indian Ocean.

Formation Process of Cyclone Montha:

  1. Low Pressure Development: Warm ocean waters create a low-pressure area that pulls in moist air.
  2. Cloud Formation: Rising moist air cools and condenses, forming thunderclouds.
  3. Cyclonic Rotation: The Coriolis effect causes the air to rotate, forming a spiral motion.
  4. Intensification: High sea surface temperature (above 27°C) and low wind shear lead to the storm strengthening into a cyclonic system.

Vessel ‘Sindhu’ Completes Maiden Voyage to Barren Island

In a major achievement for Indian maritime tourism, the passenger vessel ‘Sindhu’ has successfully completed its first voyage to Barren Island, India’s only active volcano, located around 140 km from Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Organized by the Andaman Administration, this voyage marks a new chapter in connecting visitors to the region’s geological wonders. Barren Island, positioned at the meeting point of the Indian and Burmese tectonic plates, last erupted intermittently in recent decades and remains a key site for geological research.

The Sindhu is equipped with four classes of accommodations — Coral Suite, Reef Suite, Island Breeze, and Lagoon Class — ensuring a comfortable travel experience for tourists. This initiative is expected to enhance eco-tourism in the region while promoting awareness of India’s unique volcanic landscape.
