‘Run for Unity’
- Union Home Minister, Amit Shah flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. The event was organized to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who was born on 31st of October 1875.
- Speaking on this occasion, the Home Minister said, Today, India stands strong before the World on the path of becoming the leader in every field, and its foundation was laid by Sardar Patel. He stressed that Sardar Patel’s vision, ideas and message in every field have been given a concrete shape by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- The Home Minister said that Unity Run is not just a resolution for the unity of the country, now the Unity Run has also become a resolution for a Viksit Bharat. Remembering the contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Mr Shah said Sardar Patel played a pivotal role in unifying the diverse princely states to form a united country.
- The Home Minister said that the Unity for Run is being organized for the unity and integrity of the country. He added that the government has decided to organize the event today instead of Thursday because of Diwali.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
- Republic of Fiji has bestowed its highest civilian award, the “Honourary Officer of the Order of Fiji,” on Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. This recognition, presented by Fiji’s President, Ratu Wiliame M. Katonivere, acknowledges Sri Sri’s contributions to promoting peace, unity, and uplifting communities globally.
- Sri Sri expressed his gratitude on social media, saying, “Honoured to receive Fiji’s highest civilian award.” Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of The Art of Living Foundation, has also received top civilian honors from five other countries, recognizing his global humanitarian impact.
- Established in 1981, The Art of Living focuses on initiatives in mental health, education, environment, and empowerment and now operates in over 180 countries. During his Fiji visit, Sri Sri met with Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka and UN Resident Coordinator Dirk Wagener.
- Discussions included ways The Art of Living could support Fiji’s progress in areas like youth empowerment and mental health.
Rule Of Law Index Ranking 2024
- India ranks 79 out of 142 countries in the 2024 Rule of Law Index published by the World Justice Project. This ranking reflects the current state of governance, fundamental rights, and the business environment in India. India’s performance on governance indicators is mixed.
- It ranks 60th in constraints on government powers and 44th in open government. These scores indicate some progress in governance frameworks. However, they also highlight lapses and a lack of coordination in efforts to improve governance.
- India’s score in the protection of fundamental rights is concerning. It ranks 102nd out of 142 countries. This poor performance suggests ongoing issues with the enforcement and respect for citizens’ rights.
- In terms of order and security ranks 98th. This low ranking points to challenges in maintaining public safety and effective law enforcement. The effectiveness of policing systems is questioned, impacting citizens’ trust in security agencies. India’s criminal justice system is rated 82nd.
- The system is often slow and inefficient, leading to delays in justice delivery. This inefficiency contributes to a lack of public confidence in the legal framework. India’s rank also reflects a poor business climate.
- It scores 97th in the absence of corruption, 78th in regulatory enforcement, and 107th in civil justice delivery. These factors are critical for attracting investment and nurturing businesses.
Digital Infrastructure Initiative
- United States, Japan, and South Korea announced a new framework aimed at enhancing collaboration with the Indian private sector. This initiative focuses on supporting India’s digital infrastructure.
- The announcement was made by key financial institutions, including the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), and Korea Eximbank.
- The newly launched framework is called the Digital Infrastructure Growth Initiative for India (DiGi Framework).
- This framework aims to facilitate projects in the information and communications technology sector. Key areas of focus include 5G technology, Open RAN (Radio Access Network), Submarine cables, Optical fiber networks, Telecom towers, Data centers, Smart City initiatives, E-commerce, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Quantum technology.
- The DiGi Framework establishes a streamlined process for collaboration among the three financial institutions and the Indian private sector.
- This process is designed to support strategic digital infrastructure projects in India. It will also enable policy dialogues between the Indian Government and the private sector. The goal is to promote private-sector funding for these digital infrastructure projects.
Civil Registration System
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Census Building in New Delhi. He also launched the Civil Registration System mobile application aimed at facilitating seamless and hassle-free registration of births and deaths.
- He further emphasized that the launch of the Civil Registration System (CRS) mobile application under the vision of Digital India is a significant initiative to integrate technology with governance.
Spain-India Forum
- President of the government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has asserted that Spain and India share strong ties and that both countries can collaborate to strengthen them further.
- He inaugurated the fourth Spain-India Forum in Mumbai. The forum was themed “Spain-India Partnership amid Geopolitical and Technological Challenges: New Horizons, New Possibilities.”
- It was jointly organized by the Observer Research Foundation and the Spain India Council Foundation.
- Addressing the gathering, he said that the two countries seek more business, greater investment, increased cooperation, and enhanced exchanges. Highlighting the mutual understanding between India and Spain, as well as the strength of their economic and trade relations, Mr. Sánchez expressed the view that the two countries together can lead the way towards a more sustainable future.
- He also emphasized the importance of focusing on areas such as the protection of civilians and the safeguarding of human rights in an era of increasing geopolitical tensions.
- Mr. Sánchez said that the global power center has shifted, with India playing a crucial role in this scenario, and that Spanish policies can be adapted accordingly.
- He underscored the need to address areas like digital technology and the potential risks posed by artificial intelligence, calling for international cooperation in this field.
This Diwali With MY Bharat
- Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has launched a nationwide volunteering initiative, ‘This Diwali with MY Bharat – Ye Diwali MY Bharat Ke Saath,’ to commemorate the first anniversary of the MY Bharat Portal.
- Initiative aims to engage over 200,000 volunteers across 500 locations in India, promoting social service and community spirit during the Diwali festivities. This initiative not only underscores the significance of volunteerism but also strengthens the connection between local communities and volunteers.
- Market Cleaning: Volunteers, in partnership with the All India Traders Association, will clean designated marketplaces to enhance the festive atmosphere.
- Hospital Volunteering: Volunteers will support hospitals in improving patient access to healthcare services, thereby contributing to community well-being.
- Traffic Management: Assistance will be provided to Traffic Police in managing congestion at critical chokepoints, ensuring smoother travel during the holiday rush.
- The Department of Youth Affairs encourages youth participation by registering on the MY Bharat Portal at www.mybharat.gov.in. Participants are invited to share their experiences through photos and videos on the Mega Event Page, using the hashtag #DiwaliWithMYBharat.
