What is Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme?

  • Scheme was launched on 22 January 2015 by PM Narendra Modi.
  • It aims to address the issue of the declining child sex ratio.
  • It is a national initiative jointly run by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
  • Goal- Celebrate the Girl Child & Enable her Education.
  • The objectives of the Scheme are as under:
  • To prevent gender biased sex selective elimination
  • To ensure survival and protection of the girl child
  • To ensure education and participation of the girl child

Draft rules for Code on Wages

  • Ministry of Labour and Employment has published the draft rules framed for the implementation of the Code on Wages Act, 2019.
  • It would fix a national floor minimum wage based on minimum living standard including food, clothing, housing and any other factors prescribed by the government.
  • The Ministry has changed the work requirement for eligibility for minimum wages and other benefits from nine hours to eight.
  • The latest draft clarified the issue as the nine hours mentioned earlier included one hour of rest, which has now been mentioned separately from the eight working hours.
  • Code on Wages Act 2019 – Also known as the Wage Code
  • It is an Act of the Parliament of India that consolidates the provisions of four labour laws concerning wage and bonus payments and makes universal the provisions for minimum wages and timely payment of wages for all workers in India.
  • It subsumes the following four labour laws:
  • The Payment of Wages Act, 1936.
  • The Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
  • The Payment of Bonus Act, 1965.
  • The Equal Remuneration Act, 1976.

Aids to Navigation Bill 2020

  • Shipping Ministry issues draft “Aids to Navigation Bill 2020” for public consultation.
  • The draft bill is proposed to replace the almost nine decades old Lighthouse Act, 1927, to incorporate the global best practices, technological developments and India’s International obligations in the field of Aids to Marine Navigation.
  • The draft bill provides for empowering Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL) with additional power and functions such as Vessel Traffic Service, Wreck flagging, training and certification, implementationof other obligations under International Conventions, where India is a signatory.

 AI-based ASEEM digital platform

  • ‘Aatamanirbhar Skilled Employee Employer Mapping (ASEEM)’
  • Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship launched AI-based ASEEM digital platform to bridge demand-supply gap of skilled workforce across sectors.
  •  AI-based ASEEM digital platform
  • The portal will help skilled people find sustainable livelihood opportunities.
  • It will also help the skilled workforce in attaining the industry-relevant skills and explore emerging job opportunities especially in the post COVID era.
  • ASEEM will provide employers a platform to assess the availability of skilled workforce and formulate their hiring plans.
  • The portal will map details of workers based on regions and local industry demands.
  • Database of labour migrants in Indian states and overseas citizens, who returned to India under the Vande Bharat Mission and filled SWADES Skill Card, has been integrated with the ASEEM portal.
  • Candidate data coming to Skill India Portal from various state and central skilling schemes will be integrated including PMKVY, Fee-based Programs, National Urban Livelihoods Mission, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana and Seekho aur Kamao.

National Fish Farmers Day: 10th July

  • In 2001 ,10th July was declared to be celebrated every year as ‘National Fish Farmers Day’.
  • National Fish Farmers Day is celebrated on 10th July every year in remembrance of scientists Dr. K. H. Alikunhi and Dr. H.L. Chaudhury who successfully demonstrated the technology of induced breeding in Indian Major Carps on 10th July 1957.
  • Every year, the event is celebrated by felicitating outstanding fish farmers, aquapreneurs & fisher folks in recognition of their accomplishments in the field and their contribution in the growth of the fisheries sector in the country.
  • This year union celebrated through a webinar.
  • Earlier, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana was launched by Central Government for doubling the income of the fish farmers in the country.
  • With an investment of Rs 20050 crore, the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) was launched in May 2020.
  • This scheme will address the critical gaps in fish production and productivity, quality, technology, post-harvest infrastructure and management, modernisation and strengthening of value chain, traceability, establishing a robust fisheries management framework and fishermen’s welfare.

First five re-printed volumes of Mongolian Kanjur Manuscripts released

  • The Ministry of Culture has taken up the project of reprinting of 108 volumes of Mongolian Kanjur under the National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM).
  • The first set of five volumes of Mongolian Kanjur published under the NMM was presented to the President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion of Guru Purnima.
  • It is expected that all the 108 volumes of the Mongolian Kanjur will be published by March 2022.
  • Kanjur’ means ‘Concise Orders’- the words of Lord Buddha in particular. It is held in high esteem by Mongolian Buddhists and they worship the Kanjur at temples and recite the lines of Kanjur in daily life as a sacred ritual.
  • The National Mission for Manuscripts was launched in February 2003 by the GOI, under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, with the mandate of documenting, conserving and disseminating the knowledge preserved in the manuscripts. One of the objectives of the mission is to publish rare and unpublished manuscripts.
