PM holds interaction with CMs to discuss situation emerging post Unlock 1.0

  • This was the sixth such interaction of the Prime Minister with the Chief Ministers, the earlier ones had been held on 20th March; 2nd April; 11th April; 27th  April & 11th  May.
  • PM observed that timely decisions taken to combat the pandemic have been effective in containing its spread in the country.
  • PM noted that with the efforts, green shoots in the economy are visible:
    • Rise in power consumption
    • Fertilizer sale in May seeing a significant increase
    • Increase in Kharif sowing
    • Production of two wheelers increasing
    • Digital payment in retail at pre lockdown level
    • Increase in toll collection in May
  • We have tried to save each life; recovery rate in the country is now over 50%.
  • India is amongst the countries with least deaths due to coronavirus.
  • For the safety of self, family, and community, no one should even think about venturing outside house without mask or face cover.

Climate Report Predicts Hotter, Rainier Days

  • India’s first ever national forecast on the impact of global warming on the subcontinent in the coming century expects annual rainfall to increase, along with more severe cyclones and paradoxically more droughts.
  • Report by Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune.
  • Between 1986-2015 the hottest and coldest days have been warmed by 0.68 and 0.4 degree Celsius.
  • Expected to increase further by 4.7 to 5.5 degree Celsius.
  • As per current agreements of the countries, a 2 degree rise in temperature by the end of this century has been set as the maximum limit.

Fuel Demand Reaches to 80% of Pre-COVID Levels

  • Recovery seen after easing in the nationwide lockdown due to corona virus.
  • Returning to a growth rate of 5% might take upto    2 years.
  • World market saw biggest fall in demand since 2007.
  • The world market also impacted Indian Fuel Market.
  • India has planned to double the refining capacity in next 10 years to meet rising fuel demands.
  • Construction of West Coast Refinery of the capacity of 60 million tonnes a year will start soon.
  • The refining capacity for the year 2019-20 exceeded the demand for the same year.
