What are the objectives of the MGNREGA?

  • MGNREGA is one of the largest work guarantee programmes in the world.
  • The scheme was introduced as a social measure that guarantees “the right to work”.
  • Guarantee 100 days of employment in every financial year to adult members of any rural household willing to do public work-related unskilled manual work.
  • If the government fails in its duty to provide employment, it will give unemployment allowances to the people.
  • Ensuring social inclusion by strengthening livelihood base of rural poor.
  • Creating durable assets in rural areas such as wells, ponds, roads and canals.
  • Reduce migration from rural areas to urban areas.
  • Create rural infrastructure by using untapped rural labour.

Ministry of Culture announces 7 new circles of ASI

  • The Ministry of Culture has announced 7 new circles of Archaeological Survey of India. 
  • Entire country is divided into 36 Circle for the maintenance of ancient monuments and archaeological sites.

  • Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh)
  • Trichy (Tamil Nadu)
  • Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh)
  • Meerut (Uttar Pradesh)
  • Hampi (Karnataka)
  • Raiganj (West Bengal)
  • Rajkot (Gujarat)
  • Archaeological Survey of India
  • Establishment: 1861
  • Ministry: Ministry of Culture
  • Functions: carry out surveys of antiquarian remains, exploration and excavation of archaeological sites, conservation and maintenance of protected monuments etc.
  • Founded by Alexander Cunningham, the first Director-General of ASI.
  • He is also known as the “Father of Indian Archaeology”.

New Routes Approved Under UDAN 4.0

  • Ministry of Civil Aviation approved 78 new routes under the 4th round of Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)- Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN).
  • So far 766 new routes have been sanctioned under the scheme.
  • Priority is given to North Eastern Region, Hilly States and Islands.
  • The 4th round of UDAN was launched in December 2019.
  • New Routes Connect Agatti, Kavaratti and Minicoy Islands in Lakshadweep
  • Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik
  • Launched: 2016
  • Ministry: Ministry of Civil Aviation
  • Objective: develop regional aviation market and to create affordable, economically viable and portable flights in regional routes.

Integration of e-PPO with Digi Locker

  • The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions has decided to integrate the electronic Pension Payment Order (e-PPO) with Digi Locker.
  • it will enhance Ease of Living of Central Government Civil Pensioners.
  • This facility would be set up with the help of “Bhavishya Software”.
  • Bhavishya will provide an option to retiring employees, to link their Digi-locker account
  • Permanent record of pensioners will be created of their respective PPO in their Digi Locker.
  • Digi Locker
  • Initiative of the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) under the Digital India programme.
  • Launched in 2015
  • It offers a safe and exclusive personal electronic storage space for resident citizens of India to store documents.

GIS-enabled Land Bank system

  • The system is being developed by integration of Industrial Information System (IIS) with State GIS Systems.
  • Project is launched for 6 states.
  • The platform is to provide database of industrial clusters all over India.
  • The platform has mapped 3,300 industrial parks covering 4,75,000 hectares of land.
  • It contains information related to forest, raw material heat maps, drainage and multiple layers of connectivity.
  • Industrial Information System:
  • The IIS portal is GIS enabled database of industrial clusters and areas across the states.
  • It will provide links to State GIS portals and State Land banks.
