Boeing Begins Production of Apache Helicopters For Indian Army               

  • Defence major Boeing has said it has started the production of Apache Helicopters for the Indian Army at its state-of-art facility in the US (Mesa, Arizona).
  • The Indian Army’s AH-64E Apache helicopters, renowned for their advanced technology and exceptional performance, are poised to enhance operational readiness and fortify defence capabilities.
  • The production process builds upon an ongoing collaboration with Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL), which plays a pivotal role in the manufacturing of AH-64E fuselages at its cutting-edge facility in Hyderabad, India.
  • The company’s accomplishments encompass the successful delivery of 22 AH-64E Apaches to the Indian Air Force in 2020.
  • Boeing entered into a contract to produce six additional AH-64Es for the Indian Army, with deliveries anticipated in 2024.

IAF To Host Mega Multilateral Air Exercise Next Year                  

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) will host a mega multilateral military exercise next year that was originally planned for October.
  • The exercise, ‘Tarang Shakti’, is likely to be held in the middle of 2024 as a number of participating air forces conveyed to the IAF that they will not be able to join the wargame if it is held this year, sources in the defence and military establishment.
  • The exercise is expected to witness the participation of around 12 air forces and the focus of the wargame will be to improve military cooperation and enhance interoperability, they said.
  • It is learnt that the air forces of France, the UK, Australia, the US and Japan would participate in the exercise.
  • Six countries will participate in the Tarang Shakti with their aerial assets like fighter jets, military transport aircraft and mid-air refuellers while six other nations were invited as observers, the sources said.

Sri Lanka Gets Substitute Surveillance Aircraft From India       

  • India handed over to Sri Lanka a substitute for a Dornier-228 maritime surveillance aircraft, reaffirming its security ties with Colombo and bolstering the island nation’s surveillance capabilities. The originally gifted Dornier-228 maritime surveillance aircraft is currently undergoing yearly maintenance in India.
  • President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s office said that the aircraft was handed over to Sri Lanka by India at a ceremony held at the Sri Lanka Air Force Base in Katunayake.
  • “In response to Sri Lanka’s request, the Indian government took proactive measures during these deliberations. They decided to provide a Donier-228 maritime surveillance aircraft, which was part of the Indian Navy’s fleet, to Sri Lanka free of cost for a span of two years,” it added.
