Indian, French Officials Hold First Meeting To Discuss Over USD 5.5 billion Rafale-M Deal
- For the first time after India cleared the proposal to buy 26 Rafale Marine aircraft for the Indian Navy, a team headed by French defence ministry officials met their Indian counterparts here.
- The French team was headed by an official who oversees Asia in their Directorate General of Armament while the Indian team included personnel from the Navy, which will be the user.
- The meeting took place last week and multiple points were taken up for the Defence Cyber Agency (Dcya) soon, they said.
- In the negotiations with France, the Indian Navy would be represented by Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Janak Bevli.
- Japanese Ambassador participated in an event today that commemorated 70 years of the diplomatic relationship between India and Japan. As a part of the celebratory events, the Horse-riding Performance of Japanese Yabusame and Indian Tent Pegging took place at Army Polo and Riding Club (APRC) Ground in Delhi.
Brazil’s Embraer Eyeing IAF’s Medium Transport Aircraft Deal
- Eyeing the Indian Air Force’s requirement for medium transport aircraft, Brazilian aerospace major Embraer on Monday said the company would set up an assembly line for its C-390 Millennium planes in India if it emerges successful in the race for the contract.
- The IAF is looking at procuring 40-80 medium transport aircraft to replace its ageing fleets of AN32 planes.
- President and CEO of Embraer Defence and Security Joao Bosco Costa Junior said the company is in talks with HAL and some Indian private firms to explore ways for possible partnership to bid for the programme.
- Embraer Defence and Security’s C-390 Millennium, Airbus Defence and Space’s A-400M aircraft and Lockheed Martin’s C-130J have emerged as top contenders.
- “Our C-390 Millennium is the perfect aircraft to meet India’s requirements,” Costa Junior told a group of journalists.

Kenyan Cabinet Secretary For Defence Arrives On A 3-day India Visit
- Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Kenya Mr Aden Bare Duale arrived in New Delhi on August 28, 2023, on a three-day visit to India. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh will hold talks with his Kenyan counterpart on 29th August.
- The visiting dignitary is expected to visit Indian shipyards and defence industries in Goa and Bengaluru during his stay.
- This is the maiden visit of Cabinet Secretary Duale to India and the highest level stand-alone political visit from Kenya since the new government assumed office in September 2022.
India & Bangladesh hold the fifth Annual Defence Dialogue in Dhaka
- India and Bangladesh held the 5th Annual Defence Dialogue on 28 August 2023 in Dhaka. Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, who is on a two-day visit to Bangladesh on 27-28 August 2023, co-chaired the meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart Lt Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman, Principal Staff Officer.
- The Annual Defence Dialogue between India and Bangladesh is the highest institutionalized interactive mechanism between both the countries. In the dialogue, both the countries highlighted its significance in chartering the future course of the relations between the two Armed Forces.
- During the meeting, the ongoing defence cooperation activities between the two countries were reviewed and both sides expressed satisfaction at the increasing defence cooperation engagements. The talks covered the existing bilateral exercises and both sides agreed to increase the complexity of these exercises.
A Chapter On National War Memorial ‘A Homage To Our Brave Soldiers’ Included In NCERT Curriculum
- A chapter on National War Memorial – ‘A Homage to our Brave Soldiers’ – has been included in the NCERT curriculum of Class VII from this year.
- The objective of this initiative, jointly undertaken by MoD and Ministry of Education, is to inculcate the values of patriotism, devotion to duty and courage & sacrifice among school children and increase the participation of youth in nation building.
- The chapter highlights the history, significance and concept of National War Memorial, in addition to the supreme sacrifice made by the brave hearts of the Armed Forces in the service of the nation post-Independence. In the chapter, two friends exchange letters and share their feelings of gratitude for the freedom they enjoy due to the sacrifices made by the brave hearts.
