Rajnath Singh’s 3-day Visit To Malaysia                                     

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh went his three-day official visit to Malaysia on Sunday, to deepen the defence cooperation b/w the two countries.
  • Rajnath Singh and Dato’ Seri Mohamad Hasan will exchange views on regional and global issues of shared interest. Singh will also call on Malaysia’s Prime Minister YB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim.
  • Both countries are committed to working under the vision of the Enhanced Strategic Partnership established during the visit of PM Narendra Modi to Malaysia in 2015.

US Drone Strike Kills Islamic State Group Leader In Syria                                           

  • A US drone strike killed an Islamic State group leader in Syria hours after the same MQ-9 Reaper drones were harassed by Russian military jets over the western part of the country, according to the Defence Department. Three Reapers had been flying overhead searching for the militant on Friday, a US defence official said.
  • Shortly after that, the drones struck and killed Usamah al-Muhajir, who was riding a motorcycle in the Aleppo region, said the official, who was not authorised to publicly discuss the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity to describe details of the military operation.

Navy Zeroes In On Naval Rafale; Jet Deal Likely During PM Modi’s France Visit          

  • The government is likely to sign a deal for the purchase of a naval version of Rafale fighter jets from France, for which the final decision is likely in the defence acquisition council meeting before PM Narendra Modi leaves for France next week.
  • The PM will be in France on July 13-14 during which he will be the Guest of Honour at the Bastille Day Parade. The multi-billion-dollar deal for 24-30 Rafale-Marine jets is likely to be announced during his two-day visit.
  • Last year, the naval version of Rafale fighter jets from France and the American F/A-18 Super Hornet both demonstrated their operational capabilities. The Indian Navy recorded its options and submitted a report to the government for a final decision on acquiring the best fighter for its newly-launched aircraft carrier.

Indian Army Adds New Weapons, Equipment In Eastern Ladakh For Operations In Region 

  • With the military standoff between India and China has entered its fourth year, the Indian Army is continuously adding newer weapons and capabilities in the Eastern Ladakh sector to tackle emergency situations as well as carry out conventional operations.
  • Nyoma military station located at a height of around 14,500 feet where it witnessed the newer weapon systems and equipment inducted by the Indian Army to strengthen its presence to tackle the adversary.
  • The Army in the recent past has inducted the made-in-India Dhanush howitzer which has been developed based on the Transfer of Technology for the Bofors howitzers and has been made more advanced.
  • M4 Quick Reaction Force Vehicle which can 10 combat-ready armed troops to the forward locations along the Line of Actual Control and can move at speeds of around 60-80 Km per hour even in the harsh terrain of the Ladakh sector.
  • The surveillance equipment in the Army inventory has also been strengthened as the new Tata Rajak system has been inducted into the force which can observe or detect humans from more than 15 km, and vehicles from more than 25 Km.
