2nd Edition of Indian Military Heritage Festival

  • The 2nd edition of the annual Indian Military Heritage Festival (IMHF) is all set to kick start in New Delhi on November 8, 2024.
  • The two-day festival aims to engage global and Indian think tanks, corporations, public and private sector undertakings, non-profits, academicians, and research scholars focusing on India’s national security, foreign policy, military history and military heritage.
  • The inauguration of the festival will also witness the launch of Project ‘Shaurya Gatha’. The project is an initiative of the Department of Military Affairs and the USI of India which aims to conserve and promote India’s military heritage through education and tourism.

Indian Official Meets Afghan Defence Minister

  • In a significant move, an Indian delegation met Afghanistan’s acting Defence Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob and offered the use of Chabahar Port in Iran to businesses in his country, and also discussed extending humanitarian assistance to Kabul.
  • The delegation was led by J P Singh, the Joint Secretary of the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran division in the External Affairs Ministry.
  • During a weekly media briefing here, EAM spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that apart from Mohammad Yaqoob, the delegation also met with former President Hamid Karzai and other senior ministers, along with the heads of UN agencies.
  • “They had discussions on India’s humanitarian assistance, also how the Chabahar Port can be utilised by the business community in Afghanistan for transactions and for export and import and any other thing that they would like to do,” Jaiswal said in response to a question.
  • India does not recognise the Taliban regime that has been ruling Afghanistan since 2021. India has been providing humanitarian aid, including wheat, medicines and medical supplies, to the Afghan people from time to time.

IAF, Navy, ICG Have Initiated The Process To Scrap Their Agreements With Cab aggregator Uber

  • IAF, Navy and Coast Guard have initiated the process to scrap their agreements with cab aggregator Uber as a precautionary step after some cyber security experts red-flagged the risks of potential data exposure and location tracking of military personnel and their families using the service.
  • IAF on Oct 18 signed an agreement with Uber to provide “reliable, convenient, and safe transportation services for IAF personnel, veterans and families”, following similar MoUs inked by Navy and Coast Guard earlier.
  • “Adequate steps were taken to ensure data security was protected when MoUs were signed with Uber. But due to a huge controversy being generated on social media, the contracts are being scrapped after giving due notice to the cab aggregator,” an official said.

‘New Counter Terrorism Policy Soon’: Amit Shah

  • Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that the central government is soon planning to introduce a new counter-terrorism policy and strategy to fight national security threats, terrorists and their ecosystem.
  • Addressing the anti-terrorism conference in New Delhi, Shah also said that the Modi government is committed to create a strong ecosystem against terrorism and eliminate it.Amit Shah said that while law and order is a state subject and states have the geographical boundaries and constitutional limitations, terrorism doesn’t and hence all security agencies – central and states – must work in close coordination, chalk out joint strategies and share intelligence.
  • The Centre has come up with a vision on a model anti-terrorism squad (ATS) and model special task force (STF) for all states and Union territories, which will work as a common platform to deal with the menace of terrorism, the home minister said.

President Murmu Onboard INS Vikrant

  • President Droupadi Murmu boarded the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and witnessed an operational demonstration by the Indian Navy at sea on Thursday.
  • Droupadi Murmu arrived at INS Hansa, the Naval Air Station in Goa, on Thursday, where she was received by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, and Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command. A ceremonial ‘Guard of Honour’ comprising 150 personnel was paraded in her honour upon arrival.
  • “It is a matter of pride that India is one of only six countries globally, and the only non-P5 nation, capable of building and operating both SSBNs and aircraft carriers indigenously,” Tripathi said.
  • INS Vikrant is an aircraft carrier in service with Indian Navy. The carrier is India’s fourth carrier and the first to be built in India. It was constructed by the Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi, Kerala. The namesake Vikrant is a tribute to India’s first aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.
