Ladakh Scouts Attestation Parade on 13th June 2020

  • A spectacular Attestation Parade was held at Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre at Leh. Entry of 127 well trained recruits into Regiments as young soldiers was done. 
  • Soldiers took oath in unison to serve the Nation.

Mission Sagar: INS Kesari Returns to Port Louis, Mauritius

  • As part of Mission Sagar, Indian Naval Ship Kesari returned to Port Louis, Mauritius, on 14 June 2020, to embark the Indian Navy Medical Team, which was disembarked during her last visit to Port Louis on 23 May 2020.
  • The 14-member medical team comprising specialist doctors and paramedics was disembarked at Port Louis with an aim to assist in management of COVID-19 pandemic, share expertise to help contain the spread of the disease and minimize risk to life.
  • During their deployment at Port Louis, the team visited various healthcare facilities including Regional Hospitals, Flu Clinics, ENT Hospital (the designated COVID Hospital in Mauritius), Quarantine Centre, Central Health Laboratory (the COVID testing facility in Mauritius) and the SAMU (Emergency Medical Services) Headquarters cum Control Centre located at Victoria Hospital.
  • The team interacted with healthcare warriors at all levels and held meaningful discussions towards sharing best practices on COVID-19 management. Demonstrations and workshops on important topics such as Hand Hygiene, Screening and Triage, Disinfection and PPE were conducted, and audience response during these sessions was highly encouraging.
  • The team also shared PDF versions of two documents ‘Guide to Contain and Combat COVID-19’ and ‘Manual on Training of Health Care Workers’ for future reference by the healthcare workers. Mr. Janesh Kain, Deputy High Commissioner also interacted with the Indian Navy Medical Team prior to their embarkation onboard INS Kesari.

Indian Army in joint operation with Assam Police recovers huge amount of arms, ammunition in Chirang district

  • The Indian Army along with Assam Police, 210 Cobra Battalion and 6 Battalion SSB on Monday (June 15) unearthed a massive amount of arms and ammunition in the Chirang district of Assam.
  • A joint operation was launched based on the information regarding the presence of illegal arms and ammunition in the forested area of Lal Pathar.
  • After toiling search for 12 days that involved deep search metal detectors, a suspected spot was located. On digging, a hidden cache of arms and ammunition was found.
  • A police official said, “This is the second-largest arms and ammunition recovery in the district after Panbari Forest Reserve in 2019.”
  • He added, “7 pistols, 3 rifles, 192 grenades, 14 RPG shells, 28 pistol magazines, one AK-47 magazine, 200 rounds of AK-47, and 85 SLR ammunition were recovered.”

Anmol Narang becomes first observant Sikh to graduate from US Military Academy at West Point

  • Anmol Narang has made history by becoming the first observant Sikh to graduate from the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point, and the Second Lieutenant is hopeful that her efforts to represent her religion and community will encourage Americans to learn more about Sikhism. US President Donald Trump on Saturday addressed the 1,107 graduates, including 23-year-old Narang, who gathered for the academy’s annual commencement.
  • A second-generation immigrant born and raised in Roswell, Georgia, Narang had an early appreciation for military service due to her maternal grandfather’s career in the Indian Army.
  • After she developed an interest in military service during high school, she began the process to apply for the West Point after her family visited Pearl Harbor National Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii.
  • While other Sikhs have graduated from the academy, that Narang is the first observant Sikh to have graduated from West Point.
  • She hopes that her efforts to represent her religion and community will encourage Americans to learn more about the Sikh faith, the fifth largest religion in the world, the report said.
