DRDO develops ‘UV Blaster’ for disinfection in COVID-19 prone areas

  • The Ultraviolet blaster is useful for high-tech surfaces like electronic equipment, computers and other gadgets in laboratories and offices that are not suitable for disinfection with chemical methods.
  • The equipment has six lamps each with 43 watts of UV-C power at 254 nm wavelength for 360-degree illumination. For a room of about 12×12 feet dimension, the disinfection time is about 10 minutes and 30 minutes for a 400 square feet area by positioning the equipment at different places within the room.

Three ships sent to evacuate Indians from the Maldives and UAE

  • A YouTube account claiming to be of an engineer from Robotics Design Bureau, posted a short video purportedly of a RSVK-M2 “Hunter” Unmanned Ground Vehicle testing in the eastern Donbass region.
  • No details were provided about the date and location of the test but noted that the new UGV took part in real combat against pro-Russian separatist forces.

General Dynamics UK delivered 400 Foxhound vehicles to the British Army

  • Foxhound has been utilised on operations worldwide, including in Afghanistan and Iraq, and various training exercises, including cold-weather deployment in Norway.
  • The vehicle’s low weight and tight turning circle enable it to operate effectively in urban environments where the infrastructure cannot support heavier, larger vehicles.

U.S. Air Force deploys four B-1B bombers to Indo-Pacific

  • These were deployed to Andersen Air Force Base, Guam in support of the U.S. Strategic Command BTF missions to deny or disrupt threats and assure allies and partners.
  • Three B-1Bs flew to Andersen AFB while one split off and flew down east of Japan to conduct training with U.S. Navy assets operating in the region before heading to Andersen AFB.

  • The Kongsberg’s PROTECTOR MCT-30 medium caliber turret, selected for the U.S. Army’s Stryker Dragoon infantry carrier vehicle, will now be used for the Corps’ new Amphibious Combat Vehicles.
  • The ACV will be of four variants derived from armoured personnel carrier base. They would be a recovery variant, a command and control variant, an up-armed variant and an enemy deterring variant.

U.S. and British ships conduct exercise in Arctic aim to counter Russia

  • U.S. 6th Fleet (C6F) conducted a bilateral naval anti-submarine warfare (ASW) exercise with the U.K., above the Arctic Circle where four ships from two nations, a U.S. submarine, and a U.S. P8-A worked together, in the Norwegian Sea.
  • This announcement comes after there has been a airborne exercise conducted by the Special Forces of USSR previously.

U.S. troops launch exercises in Iraq to provide better security for Coalition forces

  • The Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) press release said that U.S. Soldiers take part in live fire exercise at Al Asad Airbase in Iraq to provide better security for Coalition forces in the region.
  • Al Asad Air Base is an Iraqi Armed Forces and United States Armed Forces Base located in Al Anbar Governorate (also called as Anbar Province) of Western Iraq. The Base is also used by the British Armed Forces in Iraq.
