Diehl Defence and Sener Strengthen Partnership for Advanced Defense Technologies

In a significant move within the defense landscape, Germany’s Diehl Defence has joined forces with Spanish engineering firm Sener by signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing their collaboration in several cutting-edge defense technologies. This partnership will focus on areas such as hypersonic missiles, remote carriers, and unmanned ground vehicles.

The agreement highlights a commitment to jointly develop technologies associated with the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), an ambitious European initiative spearheaded by France, Germany, and Spain for next-generation air combat capabilities. Diehl and Sener intend to contribute vital subsystems, including guided missiles and unmanned platforms, which are expected to be integral to the overarching FCAS architecture.

This collaboration builds on a longstanding partnership that dates back more than twenty years, underscoring the deep-rooted trust and cooperative spirit between the two companies. Rafael Orbe, the Defence General Director at Sener, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, describing it as “a step forward in our long history of partnership and common trust.” He expressed optimism that this agreement will unlock new opportunities that will further solidify the working relationship between Diehl Defence and Sener.

Sener has already played a pivotal role as an industrial partner in the IRIS-T missile program, where it has been responsible for producing aerodynamic components and control systems for both air-to-air and ground-launched variants of the missile. The IRIS-T system, developed under Diehl Defence’s leadership, is recognized for its effective performance and is widely deployed among NATO and allied air forces as a reliable short-range air defense solution.

As both companies embark on this new chapter of collaboration, the defense community will be closely observing the developments that arise from this partnership, particularly regarding advancements in the FCAS program and other innovative military technologies.
