On Wednesday, the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force took part in the Ex Nabh Shakti joint training exercise. According to Indian Army sources, the exercise was carried out by the Indian Army’s Brahmastra Corps in the northeastern states.
Exercise Nabh Shakti
The Mountain Strike Corps, also known as the XVII Corps, was India’s first mountain strike corps. It was designed to be a quick response force as well as a counteroffensive force against China near the Line of Actual Control (LAC). This corps, commonly known as the Brahmastra Corps, has its headquarters at Panagarh, West Bengal, under the Eastern Command.
According to an Indian Army announcement, the Joint training exercise ‘Nabh Shakti’ was held at the Indian Army’s Brahmastra Corps (Mountain Strike Corps). The Indian Army and Indian Air Force took part in this exercise to improve interoperability and the ability to undertake combined operations. The exercise’s major goal was to improve cooperative participation in multimodal operations.
Exercise Nabh Shakti: 17 Mountain Strike Corps
The Exercise achieved integration at all levels, enmeshing operations and procedures. The Indian Army’s 17 Mountain Strike Corps was established to carry out strike operations in enemy territory during wars with the adversary in the country’s eastern regions, particularly in states bordering the dreaded neighbour China.
When this corps was formed, the initial idea was to have two infantry divisions, two separate armoured brigades, and artillery, engineer, air defence, and aviation brigades. Due to funding restrictions, the raising was halted in 2018, leaving a truncated force consisting of the Corps Headquarters, one Infantry Division, and specific other combat and support forces. According to an official, the exercise achieved integration at all levels, enmeshing operational concepts and procedures. The Indian Army’s 17 mountain strike corps also deploys the Boeing Ah-64 Apache helicopter, which is one of the world’s deadliest attack choppers. This exercise successfully integrated operational principles and procedures at all levels.
The 59 Mountain Division plays an important role in the formation of cohesive combat groups. This concept, which involved bringing together multiple military branches into a single, united fearsome fighting force, initially came to light in 2019 under the supervision of the Chief of the Army Staff General Bipin Rawat. The goal was to enable rapid mobilisation and controlled offensives in the difficult terrains of high-altitude mountain regions.
