Fortra, a Minnesota-based cybersecurity firm, has launched a new Defense and Intelligence Unit (DIU) aimed at enhancing cyber capabilities for defense, intelligence, and critical infrastructure sectors. This strategic initiative comes in response to the escalating scale and complexity of cyber threats targeting military systems and vital infrastructure.
The DIU is specifically designed to meet operational needs in environments where networks may face challenges such as classification, degradation, or complete disconnection. This focus reflects an increasing recognition of the unique cybersecurity demands encountered in such high-stakes settings.
John Grancarich, who has been named Executive Vice President and Head of the Defense and Intelligence Unit, underscored the urgency of this mission. “When you look across the world today, it’s clear that we are living in a time of rising geopolitical and cyber risks,” he stated. The establishment of the DIU signifies Fortra’s commitment to bolstering the defenses of allied nations against global cyber adversaries.
One of the primary objectives of the DIU is to concentrate on critical technical areas that pertain to defense operations, particularly in high-risk environments. This includes aspects such as data discovery, classification, and protection in accordance with defense mandates. Additionally, the unit aims to develop capabilities for the secure transfer of data across networks that may be classified or disrupted.
To enhance its offerings, Fortra plans to introduce AI-driven tools designed to evaluate infrastructure resilience and pinpoint vulnerabilities within operational settings. Alongside this, the company is also focused on creating deployable, enclave-ready architectures tailored for specific missions, catering to environments that require restricted access or forward deployment.
Implementation of these initiatives will rely on collaboration with system integrators and technology partners, leveraging personnel and facilities throughout North America and Europe. This approach is indicative of Fortra’s comprehensive strategy to cybersecurity, which prioritizes prevention and proactive measures over reactive responses to breaches.
By emphasizing early detection of vulnerabilities, obstructing initial intrusion attempts, and detecting ongoing malicious activities, Fortra aims to mitigate the impact of threats through robust data protection protocols and user education initiatives. The establishment of the DIU underscores Fortra’s commitment to advancing cyber defense capabilities in a rapidly evolving threat landscape.
