French Army Tests Exoskeletons for Military Logistics Support

The French Army is taking significant steps to integrate exoskeleton technology into its logistics operations, marking a potential shift from experimental innovations to practical applications in military support roles. The Maintenance Brigade (BMAINT) of the army has initiated trials using exoskeletons to aid troops in handling heavy loads, aiming to alleviate the physical demands often faced during transport tasks.

Built to support the handling of weights up to 100 kilograms (approximately 220 pounds), these advanced systems work by redistributing the load to the ground. This alleviation of weight not only lessens physical strain on soldiers but also aims to minimize fatigue, thereby improving overall efficiency and operational capability in logistics tasks.

Currently, several models of exoskeletons provided by European companies, particularly RB3D and German Bionic, are undergoing testing. The training for personnel is taking place at the army’s military schools located in Bourges, where soldiers are familiarized with the technology and its benefits.

As military operations increasingly rely on advanced technologies, the introduction of exoskeletons may herald a new era in how logistics personnel conduct their duties, enhancing both effectiveness and safety on the battlefield.
