This pension undergoes regular reassessment in line with the recommendations of Pay Commissions and is supplemented by adjustments for inflation through a Dearness Relief component.

Key revisions to these schemes include significant increases in grant amounts for daughters’ marriages, medical treatment, and vocational training. Some notable changes include the Daughter’s Marriage Grant, which has been raised to as much as ₹50,000, and the Penury Grant for elderly widows, increased from ₹1,000 to ₹4,000 per month. The Government also provides scholarships for children under the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme to support their education.
Employment initiatives on compassionate grounds have been established to ensure that widows and the dependents of deceased Armed Forces personnel can secure jobs. The Indian Army reserves specific vacancies for these individuals in its officer selection processes, allowing eligible widows preference in both technical and non-technical roles. Age relaxation provisions have also been put in place to facilitate their inclusion in the workforce.
Furthermore, initiatives like the Army Welfare Housing Organisation ensure that a percentage of housing projects are earmarked for widows, enhancing their access to adequate housing. This aspect of support is crucial, particularly for those seeking stability after the loss of their spouses.
