India’s naval defense capabilities are poised for a significant upgrade with the introduction of advanced Man-portable Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (MP-AUVs) by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This new generation of underwater vehicles, developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam, aims to enhance the country’s ability to effectively counter underwater threats.
The MP-AUVs are designed to operate autonomously, which allows for both reconnaissance and operational tasks without the need for constant human control. This capability not only improves efficiency but also increases the safety of personnel by minimizing their exposure to potential dangers in underwater environments.
The shift towards these compact systems signals a broader trend in modern naval warfare, where agility and technology play crucial roles in strategic operations.
