In a significant development regarding national security, the Indian Armed Forces executed “Operation Sindoor” during the night of May 6–7. This operation aimed at dismantling key terrorist infrastructure situated in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), signaling a marked escalation in India’s counter-terrorism strategy.
During a media briefing, Air Marshal A.K. Bharti provided insights into the operation, emphasizing its precision. He stated that the strikes were specifically calibrated to target terror-linked facilities, deliberately avoiding any military or nuclear installations in Pakistan. When questioned about the risk of escalation, Bharti pointedly noted, “Thank you for telling us that Kirana Hills houses some nuclear installation, we did not know about it. We have not hit Kirana Hills, whatever is there.” His remarks underscored India’s commitment to preventing misinterpretations regarding its military actions.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed that the operation included nine verified strikes, characterizing the mission as “thoughtful, measured, and proportionate.” He reaffirmed that these actions were taken under India’s right to self-defense against terror-related incidents.
Supporting this viewpoint, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri articulated that the strikes aimed to be “non-escalatory, responsible, and focused exclusively on counterterrorism.” Misri reiterated that India’s actions align with its long-standing policy of zero tolerance toward terrorism.
Operation Sindoor comes on the heels of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the loss of 26 Indian lives. The military campaign is positioned as part of a broader strategy reflecting a balance between decisive action and restraint.
In the face of potential retaliation from Pakistan, India’s leadership, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has expressed robust support for the Armed Forces, emphasizing that national security is of utmost priority.
