On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with his Vietnamese counterpart, General Phan Van Gang, in the national capital. Progress on numerous bilateral defence cooperation programmes was discussed at the meeting, with both sides expressing satisfaction with the current engagements.
Defence Minister Singh announced the donation of an indigenously-built in-service Missile Corvette INS Kirpan, which will be a watershed moment in the Vietnam People’s Navy’s capabilities. “Both Ministers identified ways to strengthen existing areas of collaboration, particularly in the fields of defence industry cooperation, maritime security, and multinational cooperation,” the Ministry of Defence said in an official announcement following the meeting.
In addition, as part of his engagements, the Vietnamese defence minister paid a visit to the DRDO headquarters and discussed methods to improve defence industrial capabilities through collaboration in defence research and joint manufacturing. Earlier in the day, General Phan Van Gang paid tribute to the fallen warriors by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial. On Sunday, the visiting dignitary landed in India for a two-day visit. Vietnam plays a critical role in India’s Act East Policy and the Indo-Pacific region.
